What is a .rtm file and how can I play it?

I used WM recorder 14 to capture a live stream. I notice it creates temporary files in the "SWF Extras" folder with a .rtm extension. They're clearly my captured video (based on filesize). It also makes a bunch of .ini files.

Anyway, if I manually stop a stream it will make the .rtm into a playable .flv. But if the broadcaster stops the stream on their end, and I don't babysit the program and stop recording before this happens... I get this useless .rtm file and I can't play it.

I tried renaming it to .flv but no go. Media player classic home cinema isn't recognizing it.

Did I mention that when I exited the program, it deleted the .rtm file (and a copy of the .rtm I made in the same folder, for experimentation) but helpfully left all those usless .ini files? I hate this program, except it seems to catch streams that other programs miss.

So yeah, short version: in the future, if I end up with one of these 500 meg RTM files... what can I do with it?

I'll see if I can get a hold of them, I thought it might be a known video format but I guess it's some custom thing for this program only.

Try renaming the files into SWF, FLC, RM, whatever you think the original stream was.

Useless update to an old thread, but if anyone else runs into this problem they maybe can get help here.

.RTM files appear to be proprietary to WMrecorder, they're some slightly rearranged version of your partially-downloaded FLV I guess.
Applian kindly provided me with an app that extracts the FLV from the RTM -

I almost get the feeling the main programmer behind wmrecorder wrote this (or at least made it public) only because I kept revisiting the question on their support forum, basically asking for this 'converter'. If so, that was pretty cool of them/him to come up with this tool.

It has a very minimal interface. It looks for RTMs or FLVs and you can highlight them and convert 'em.
To make it work, the RTM files must be in the same directory as the installed program

Then you just choose rtm from the only menu option and let it decode it. Takes a minute, so it's not just some simple rename or stripping a few bytes. But it's nothing overly complex either as the output file is nearly the exact same size as the input file. Navigate to the install directory to see a readme.

The output FLV I got plays but appears to be missing timing info, so it's playing in ultra fast forward. No idea if it's fixable but at least I've got a workable FLV to play with.
