Is there a way of checking if your BD burner drive will burn LTH disks.

What is an "LTH disk"?
What is an "LTH disk"?
BD-R LTH is a write-once Blu-ray disc format that features an organic dye recording layer. The advantage of BD-R LTH is it can protect a manufacturer's investment in DVD-R/CD-R manufacturing equipment. Only modifications are required to current equipment; no investment in new production lines is required. It is believed this can lower the cost of discs.[8]
Old Blu-ray players and recorders can't utilize BD-R LTH, however, a firmware upgrade could enable the device to access BD-R LTH. Panasonic has already released such a firmware update in November 2007 for its DMR-BW200, DMR-BR100 and the MR-BW900/BW800/BW700 models. [9] Pioneer is also expected to ship the first LTH BD drives in Spring of 2008[10]. Furthermore, Sony's PlayStation 3 received firmware upgrade to enable BD-R LTH reading in March, 2008[11].
If you can't find the info on the net then buy one and try to burn it.

The very second Google hit shows initial test results and compatibilities for these:

Hi Gser
I would think that the firmware update lets the drive recognise the LTH disk and then inverts the data written, i.e. 0 becomes 1 and vise versa. Or perhaps the data is left as is on burn and inverted on read.

It's not only this, otherwise the HTL disks could also be manufactured on the old DVD lines. There is a change in reflectivity, too, and many small details.

Yes I expect there are many differences at manufacture but I dont think that the firmware update to burners does much except invertion for the relectivity reverse.
Recognition, speeds, and in some cases laser intensity are the only other things that are likley to be available options to change for a domestic burner.
If refraction angles change then theres no real option to correct for this on the burners we use.
