Is x264 optimized for AMD 6-core processors?or is Intel Core i7 4Core/8Threads better

I have seen the benchmarks comparing the two, with both ending up to be the same.

So the question for the coders is, is it optimized for AMD 6-Cores meaning should we expect any optimizations to x264 for giving even more performance for AMD 6 core processors since they just came out ?

x264 is heavily optimized for all x86 processors, and can make use of many more than 6 cores.

I think you'll get excellent performance on an AMD 6 core system, as the older quad-core Phenom II CPUs performed very well relative to other apps.

Still, the i7 is a real beast. The 6 core (or new 8 core Xeon) probably eats anything AMD has alive, except possibly their new 12 core Magny Cours. I'd love to have a couple in-house to duel :D

I know, I would love to afford the SR-2 and put dual 32nm 6-Core Xeons on there.

Why would anything be changed? The 6-core varieties don't add any new features.

Just wait till the next gen Core i7's are fully released (starting end of this year). There's a new quad channel RAM Intel CPU ;)

The next step Intel CPU (end of this year) and AMD Bulldozer both support AVX, and other new instruction sets. Its then that major work will need to be done with x264 to optimise it for these features, if any of them prove to be useful!
