Currently I use the Hauppauge 2250 and WIN7 to capture cable QAM in TS but when I use commercial and free conversion programs to convert TS to .avi format the video quality is poor and audio is 2-3 seconds out of sync. Any suggestions?

Well you can't really convert to avi as it is only a container for the video and audio. So stop doing so.

OK, so what format do you recommend converting to? or recording to? or software to record with?

TS source comes out as 1920 x 1080, Video data rate 15257 kbps, audio bit rate 256 kbps, 29.97 fps

I've seen better posted avi files at 624 x 352 Video 911 Audio 128 23 FPS

Not a nob but this HDTV recording to PC has me perplexed.

Why do you want to convert it?

What does TIVO recognize?

TiVo Desktop Plus also makes it possible to view videos, collected from the web, on your broadband connected TiVo DVR.

Supported formats include:

Windows Media Video (.wmv) QuickTime Movie (.mov) MPEG-4/H.264 (.mp4, .m4v, .mp4v) MPEG-2 (.mpg, .mpeg, .mpe, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpv2) DivX or Xvid (.avi, .divx)

SO am I answering my own question that I should convert TS to high quality H.264 = .mp4 or DivX = .avi ???

I have been using HandBrake to create H.264 = .mp4 then changing the extension from .mp4 to .avi so TIVO Plus recognizes the format. For some reason TIVO does not recognize HB created .mp4. Frame size of ~ 640 x 480 is also required. Quality is OK and certainly better than .mpg - SVCD but not as good as most .avi files I download.

What software is recommended to read .avi CODECS?

What software is recommended to create .avi files from TS?

Converted to avi using DivX CODEC. Just about any free or commercial software works. Post back if you need more specifics. I was thinking too hard........

I don't need anything

If one has a problem and solves it (helped or not) then that one should share his/her findings with the community.

If you used before lots of free and commercial solutions and still had a 2-3 seconds delay, what hocus pocus was needed to resynch audio to video using any free or commercial software?

Citing: but when I use commercial and free conversion programs to convert TS to .avi format the video quality is poor and audio is 2-3 seconds out of sync
and: Just about any free or commercial software works.
