View Full Version : AviDmux - H.264 B-Frame Question...

Hi there..

I have been using AviDmux to encode my videos into the H.264 codec as a "2 pass average bitrate"... but then if I load up the encoded file again for any reason I get this message.

What exactly dose this mean.. and is it something I should be worried about.. What is the difference between hitting "yes or no" and is there a encoding option I can use so this dose not happen in the advance settings (That I do not use, I just leave default apart form selected bitrate)? And should I be bothered using an option to stop this at all?

Say no if you're cutting, otherwise yes. This only applies to seeking within GOPs; if you're not doing frame-specific operations, you have no need for frame accuracy.

I should also say yes if I am injecting a audio track?

No need. Audio will be unaffected. The only time frame accuracy is implicated is if you're doing something within particular GOPs such as cutting (even joining with the safe mode should be OK because all GOPs will be complete).

Just for info: Avidemux 2.5.x won't be able to handle H.264 stream (with B-Frames) in a frame-accurate way. This will be "fixed" in Avidemux 2.6 ;)

Until then I would suggest using the AVS Proxy (http://avidemux.org/admForum/viewtopic.php?id=4397) to load H.264 streams into Avidemux. That's not an option for "cutting" tasks though...

With DGAVCIndex (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DGAVCDec) you can do basic cuts, i.e. set the start and end points. You may also want to give H264TS Cutter (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Editors/H264TS-Cutter.shtml) or TS Doctor (http://www.cypheros.de/dvb_e.html) a try.
