View Full Version : Questions about TS Muxing for DVB

Hi folks,

I'm looking into encoding some VOD content for a satellite provider. I'm planning on H.264 + AC3 in a TS container.

According to the broadcaster, the TS must contain "DVB_AU", which I've learned is also known as "ETSI TS 101154 / AU_information private data". I know this because Rhozet Carbon Coder has the ability to insert this data, but can only do so when using its internal Mainconcept SDK H.264 encoder, and not simply mux elementary streams

This is all to facilitate trick-play. A simple mux with TSMuxeR doesn't work on their set-top box, since it is missing this information.

I have an evaluation version of Manzanita's TS Muxer, but its _extremely_ in depth, certainly above my knowledge of MPEG-2 Transport Streams.

Does anyone have familiarity with this type of scenario? I know I can go buy an off the shelf encoding package from ATEME or Harmonic that can do this, but I want to use x264 ;)

For the record in case anyone out there runs into this issue again, Manzanita can insert the necessary AU_information. You simply have to use custom configuration. Their tech support team is highly skilled, and was able to help me produce compliant files.

So, I'd suggest Manzanita for this kind of application, if you need it :)

Manzanita is awesome. It helps the pocketbook if your employer buys it. The only hassle is I have to put the dongle on my keychain so I always have it at home and at work. We use it for muxing test streams for STBs and for generating multi-program streams for shows like CES.

Did you work with Greg over there? I agree he is the cat's meow of support.

I never got a name, but feedback was awesomely informative and well written.

Here's a question for you, neuron2 - I am also evaluating Manzanita's TS analyzer, and I ran through a few TS's muxed with MP2TSME. There was a MASSIVE amount of jitter detected, though the files play fine.

What are some causes of jitter in the mux?

Sorry I never used their analyzer.

Specs are available at the Manzanita website.

Looks like it's a field to indicate the Access Unit's frametype, framerate and a few other things.

Pretty trivial to implement. I'd do it as part of finishing my TS muxer if I wasn't occupied with reverse engineering stuff.
