I have a BD with a DTS HD MA 7.1 track (and core).

I currently don't have a surround system and when I do , I plan on only a 5.1.

My question is, will the dts decoder play/decode the track as 5.1 HD MA or will it
revert to playing the 5.1 lossy core only? Searched and couldn't find any info on this.

Or,..... will the 7.1 just be decoded as is and the outputs for the 5.1 spkrs play accordingly ?

The ArcSoft Audio Decoder can be configured to downmix from 7.1 to 5.1 ( at least, this is what its config applet suggests :) )

Thanks, but I should have been clearer....I'm talking about a stand alone BD player/TV setup.

If you don't have a 5.1 or 7.1 system attached to the bd player, then the player will do a downmix to stereo, or the nearest quality your tv is capable.

You'll get the ac3 core.

When I play a Blu-ray Disc which contains a DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio track my Onkyo TX-SR606 shows the DTS-HD logo and I only have 3.1 (LF,RF,C,LFE) connected.

I know you meant the DTS core, not ac3, which is DD.

Thank you, that's the answer I was looking for.
That you still get the DTS MA, even with less that 7.1 spkrs connected.

You will still have DTS-MA- core is played only when DTS-MA decoder is not present- it has nothing to do with you speaker setup. It will be downmixed to whatever setup you have (how you setup your AMP/Player).

Apologies :o I'm afraid I'd still have misunderstood your Original Post, even if English were my native tongue :o :o :o

It's amazing how little inf is available re this in a Google/forum search.

As I said elsewhere, currently Google is more of an advertising machine than a search engine. :D If something you're looking for isn't listed by Google, that doesn't mean the subject you're looking for doesn't exist. One year ago, if I fed Google with a certain set of "magic words" :) , it would list several pages at Doom9; but now, if I try to repeat the trick again, Google will return something like "Your search - "blah blah blah" - did not match any documents".
