Hi!

Welcome to doom9. Please dismiss the unhelpful comments :) We were all beginners once.

FPS is simply "Frames Per Second". In other words, how many images are displayed per second. If your video is 29.97fps, that means it's NTSC - which is the TV standard used in the United States and several other countries.

PAL (used in europe and much of the rest of the world) uses 25fps.

Film is usually shot at 24fps, and can be converted for playback on NTSC or PAL via several different methods.

I suggest you do some reading on wikipedia to become more familiar with basic subject matter like this. In brief, it's usually a good idea to just leave the FPS as-is, unless you have a film source that's been telecined to 29.97fps (probably what's happening in your case).

Regarding avisynth - there are LOTS of filters, and they all do different things. You should only use filters to fix a specific issue. If you need help with this, post an unprocessed sample of your source.

That brings me to the final question - what is your source, and what is your goal?

If you source is a DVD, just download DGSplit, and trim out ~100mb of a VOB. Post this to a free hosting site like mediafire, megaupload or whatever, and post a link here. Rapidshare is usually frowned upon :)

We're all happy to help. Glad to have you here.
