Can i use x264 + Skype to improve my webcam live-video when i'm live on skype during the video call?

Skype doesn't use H.264; last I recall they use a proprietary format (VP7).

Noticed that ( they have to pay for h.264 ), but...no other options to SOMEHOW :) make some tweek on it ( skype )?...would be nice idea to add x264 on it...what do u think?

latest version of skype uses h.264 for 720P encoding. However... THey use hardware encoders provided with specific web cameras.

Do you know if x264 integration is slated to show up in free streaming software shortly? (I know x264 is fully ready now, but I'm wondering if any vendors that cater to individuals are going to implement it). I noticed that the video which goes over skype is far worse than what even my piece-of-crap webcam is capable of. Low bitrates (over $100 a month gives you half a megabit of upload here in Alaska) + VP7 means nasty quality.
