1) i used megui's mp4 muxer to mux together avc 1080i, 48khz mp3 and srt subtitle track. during playback mpc shows 2 subtitle options:
-imported with gpac internal
-imported with gpac internal (plain text)
when i choose first one it is displayed in extremely tiny letters. i also tried to edit sub track's properties in yamb by increasing font size, but this track is still displayed in the same microscopic letters. how can i fix this?
2) i also have a problem opening this file in Quicktime, i get this error:
Error -2041: invalid sample description
everyone suggests different solutions to this, what's the right one?
Edit: actually one more question
3) is there any way to encode (or copy audio) as mp3/ac3 when exporting movies in QTPro under Windows?

you can't...leave the subs as a separate file...

stick to h264+aac and mux from raw! (this mean to encode to raw [check QT compatibility box in MeGUI options])]
3) is there any way to encode (or copy audio) as mp3/ac3 when exporting movies in QTPro under Windows?
nope...

First: I suggest you generate an AAC audio stream, not an MP3 audio stream. It's more QT7 compliant.
Second: Mux your AAC audio stream into the .MOV container using QT7Pro. Then use MP4muxer to de-mux the elementary .AAC stream (this will make the elementary .AAC stream fully QT7 compliant).
Third: Mux your .AAC audio stream and AVC video streams together using MP4muxer.
Fourth: Try playing the mux in QT7 before adding a text stream, to see if its QT7 compliant.
See if the above first...

thanks man (Edit: you both guys, i'll try that SeeMoreDigital)
one other unpleasant discovery: i tried to encode to h264 1080i in MOV, by feeding QT a short uncompressed interlaced avi sample. left deinterlace box unchecked in the options. it still encoded the stream as ugly progressive. i indexed it, dgavc says frame struct Frame.
was it my setup/settings or is QT broken for interlaced encodes?

it's just someone told recently that there might be such a thing as mov movie with mp3 audio track. are they wrong? any chance there might be some other mov muxer that can accomplish this? these mac sound manager/core audio components do they support mp3 at least in theory?

Yes, there is no problem with adding any codec you like in mov. QuickTime supports mp3 inside mov without the need of any third party codec.
If you are making an mp4, is better to stick with the most common formats (h.264 and aac) for compatibility.

i dont think QT allows encoding to mp3, or passthrough for mp3 track if it was in the input video file, i tried that yesterday.
