Hi all,

first of all. A couple of weeks ago I got pretty annoyed because I discovered that the videos I made with my Canon IXUS used a tremendous amount of space on my hard disk. Also I had a couple of DVD’s (not encrypted and self-made) which I wanted to convert and store on my computer.
For that I used AutoGK the years before. But time goes on and I got familiar with the topic of video encoding again. I read through a lot of posts at this forum and loads of other tutorials covering the topic. Also the x264 codec became more and more interesting. So I had to find a new tool or at least UI.
I tried Mediacoder first, but somehow I didn’t get used to it and search for something new. I had the feeling, that MeGUI was somehow the standard tool recommended in this forum and I gave it a try. Although I tried it some years ago and didn’t like it because of the complexity and it was far away from usable for beginners. This time read some tutorials and thought once everything is set (e.g. profiles) that the One-Click feature was an easy way to use the tool. I don’t want the 100% best results, but an easy way to compress video files. As mentioned before, I read a lot of guides to MeGUI.
Anyways. First I tried to convert one .vob file to Xvid/mp3 in an .avi container via One-Click. The result was that MeGUI crashed after creating the .d2v. I changed all kinds of parameters, without any effect. After some tries I discovered, that an .mkv container works just fine. So I did some more research, imported new presets… Still the same error. But since my DVD player requires an Xvid .avi I’m pretty frustrated. Somehow I like some of the MeGUI’s features, but I want an easy and quick solution to convert videos at the same time. I also thought of changing to handbrake, SUPER…
Can anyone help me or is MeGUI just not able to do the simple job of converting .vob to Xvid/avi with one click? All other tools do. Or would you recommend using another tool?

Hi,

do you mean the log tab? No, because once it crashed, the log is cleared.

The settings at One-Click are:
Filesize: 1CD
Splitting: Don't split
Output resolution: 704 (Source 720 oder 704)
Auto Crop: On
Signal AR: On
Avisynth: Template=Standard + Resize=Lanczos(Sharp)+Noise Filter=Minimal Noise+Color Correction=On+Clever anamorphic encoding=Resize to mod 16
Automatic Deinterlacing: On
Video Preset: XviD: Xvid 2pass HQ (found in the forum)
Audio Codec: LAME MP3: MP3-128ABR

Container: AVI

No matter what I change. AVI crashes and AKV works

Is this helpful or do you need anything else?

Does anyone have an idea or the same problem?

No idea? Or what should I check? Is there another log which may help?

There "should" be no total crash of MeGUI so that you are not able to post the log. Can you post the complete text of the crash message or post the screenshot of it?

Hmm,

I think it's a total crash. See the pics

Do you need any more information?

Sadly there is really not much information available in the crash window. You can try to update to the latest version (0.3.4.13 - you have to change the update server in the settings to the development server). If it still fails I will try to reproduce it. Therefore I need a (short) sample of the VOB which fails for you.

Ok, I tried that and gave it a quick shot. But it didn't work. I'll try some more at the weekend.

Are there any other external plugins (e.g. ffdshow, avisynth...) that could cause the problem?

Hey,

I tried some more and MeGUI still crashes. I even tried with different .vob files :(

Anybody?

Give Zathor the sample that he asked for!

Is this really needed? Since I tried several .vob files from different DVDs and conversion to other containers or to x264 works fine.

How can I create a "short" sample?

Sorry, but I've read a lot but I'm still quite new to this topic.

Ok, Zathor told me to try it but I didn't get a response so far.

Yesterday I also de-installed avisynth x64 and installed the 32bit version...
Still the same error :(
