View Full Version : Tired of coasters with BD Rebuilder to BD9

I'm on my 4th DVD+R DL coaster trying to back up Mad Men Season 3 BD.
I know how to use both AnyDVD and BD rebuilder, and have made successful discs in the past.
I follow this guide (http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/305868-The-Complete-Guide-To-Making-Blu-Ray-Backups-%281-1-Backups-BD5-Backups%29) exactly. But, I always end up with a data disc with the same three folders (i.e. BDMV & Certificate) that BD-Rebuilder outputs. I even use the AVCHD Patcher.exe. The only strange thing is that after dragging and dropping my index.bdmv file into AVCHD Patcher, I only get an index.bdmv.bak file, no MovieObject.bdmv.bak file to go with it. Using AVCHD Patcher v.1.06.
I follow the ImgBurn instructions exactly. In fact, my resulting DVD-9 disc has the exact same file structure as what I drag into Imgburn!
What am I doing wrong?

What am I doing wrong? Are you using a Panasonic player? If so, then the problem is probably the player firmware... I believer there also is an issue with the latest PS3 firmware, but I don't own one so I can't confirm.
I have no idea why you are using AVCHD Patcher.
Also, please read the first post of the Beta Test/Bug thread. If you decide to be a beta tester, you have to accept the beta status of the software and you agree to avoid saying things like "I'm tired of coasters" or "I wasted my time". Your responsibility as a tester is to report any issues and skip the commentary. It's kinda' implied when you use beta test free software.

Hi,
First, my apologies for expressing my frustration in such a manner. My prior experiences with RB-Pro have always been so good, as such I almost take the procedures and resulting output for granted.
The first time I tried it, I used just BD-Rebuilder with setting to burn straight to disc via image file (no AVCHD Patcher). The second time I tried it, I had Rebuilder output to an image file, which I then burned via Imgburn (still no AVCHD Patcher). Frustration let me to try AVCHD Patcher, which still has not helped.
I'm using a PS3, and two OPPO players. The PS3 will actually recognize the discs as data discs. I can drill down the folders to the Stream folder and find the appropriate episodes, and they do play. So, it's not something wrong with the shrink or the burn, it's the disc structure. I'm try to do a full disc backup.
Full BD backup written to DVD (5 or 9) will not work in the PS3 without changing the index file. I did few fullbd backups to dvd9 and they show as DVD-ROM in my PS3 and play just fine. Have in mind that if the disc has java it won't work in PS3 when using DVD media.
However you need the proper AVCHD structure for index.bdmv and proper settings in ImgBurn - UDF 2.50.
Either you didn't properly patch the index.bdmv or didn't used ImgBurn properly.

This is the same index.bdmv fix we discussed a while back -- I think it was for Panasonic players? I guess it's time I implemented it...
Note: I accidentally deleted a large segment of my PMs and lost our discussion.

Yes, this disc has Java. I have tried several times to patch the index.bdmv, but as noted above, I only get an index.bdmv.bak file, no MovieObject.bdmv.bak file to go with it.

I'll PM again because I discovered some new things to make it 100% AVCHD compliant (all files).

You can't play JAVA discs in your PS3 unless you burn to BD-R/RE. No need to try. Sony removed JAVA support in firmware 2.50 couple of years ago.

That is good to know, and explains my problem. Thanks Dean.

For the record, I have a Panasonic BDR-60 and have had no problems playing the DL (BD9) discs on it. I don't make an image, I rip to HD with AnyDVDHD, process movie only with DVDRB and burn with Imgburn. It's worked very well. I did Avatar the other day and it plays beautifully. Just to let you know that not everyone is having problems with the panny players.
There is no problem with 'Movie only' backups. The problem is with full backups written to DVD discs (with or without java).

I typically only do a movie only back up, but with a TV series I need the menu... or do I?

I went thru a few BD9's, using disks other then Vebatim, used the Verby, first time , no problem. Sometimes I got lucky with the cheaper disks but when they failed the Verby worked.

Sorry to necrothread here, but I've been searching and searching for info on AVCHD-patcher. I used the guide by milOtis to put my BR movie onto a BD-5. His guide says to use AVCHD-patcher on the index file when done with the transcoding. But, I am under the impression that the guide is a bit dated.
I have also read that AVCHD-patcher is no longer needed when using BD-RB to do the transcoding to BD-5 or BD-9.
May I please get clarification on this? Does BR-RB take care of the index file when using the BD-5 or BD-9 setting to transcode the video in BD-RB?
Thanks.

@Darth_Emma
Hi! (Again)
Forget the guide by "MilOtis" and forget about "AVCHD patcher". Neither is required nor beneficial in conjunction with BD-Rebuilder or the multitude of Blu-ray related tools/GUIs posted about in several of the Doom9 sub-forums...

Thanks for confirming that.
