VLC...choppy playback for 1080p video. CPU around 30%

Hi,

I own a brand new Thinkpad T510 with a Intel Core i5 and Intel Graphics HD. It is very fast and 720p video is very nice.

However 1080p video is extremely choppy. Now my CPU is always around 30% and the harddisk shouldn't be the bottleneck either since it is a blazing fast 7200 rpm disk. Anyone got a clue where the bottleneck is?

I have found VLC to be virtually useless for 1080p...

Sorry to say but the bottleneck is probably VLC. Try MPC-HC with DXVA or a multithreaded AVC decoder like CoreAVC, DivX, DiAVC, or FFMPEG-MT.

Use a multithreaded decoder.

MPC-HC with DXVA needs some cards from Nvidia or ATI from what I have read. I have the most recent Intel Mobile HD graphics.

How do I use one of the codecs you mentioned: CoreAVC, DivX, DiAVC, or FFMPEG-MT? Together with VLC or some other player? How do I tell the player to use those codecs?
