View Full Version : MeGUI and VNC ?

The machine I use for encoding is headless, and I typically access it through Remote Desktop. The exception is when I want to use DGIndexNV, in which case I need to use VNC instead so as to keep the nVidia CUDA drivers in place.

This was all well and good when I was using Gordian Knot. I've now switched to MeGUI, and without fail, if I have MeGUI open, VNC doesn't work. It loads the initial screen but I can't click on anything at all, it's just frozen. If I then RD and close MeGUI, and then go back to VNC, it's all fine. I'm using Ultra VNC (free) btw. Can anyone tell me what's going on, and how I can fix it?

I am using myself UltraVNC (latest release) with MeGUI (latest release) on a Win7 x64 machine and have no problems. Sadly I do not have a solution for your problem.

Edit: seems i was mistaken.

This is a DGIndexNV limitation. Search for VNC in the DGIndexNV thread.

I don't think you've fully grasped the issue. This couldn't possibly be a DGIndexNV problem, because I don't even have it open. The problem is, if MeGUI is running the VNC doesn't work.

Zathor, my setup is the same as yours: l64-bit Win7, atest MeGUI (32-bit, not the experimental 64-bit), latest 64-bit Ultra VNC (just re-installed it).

First, do you have the same experience as me wherein you can't open MeGUI through VNC because it pops up a security dialog? Or have you lowered the security in the control panel, or what?

Second, did you use any non-default settings? Are you using the VNC mirror drivers? Are you using the Vista "hook" drivers (prompted on install)? I really want to get this sorted out.

I have no problems with VNC + MeGUI + DGIndexNV - and no, I have no security popup. Btw which kind of security popup is it? It should be the same as with RDP.

I assume that I use the default settings. I am on a business trip these days and can not give you more details.

It's the standard User Account Control notice: "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?". VNC and UAC don't seem to mix, when a UAC notice pops up I get booted from VNC. I wish I knew what the problem was here... anyway thanks for your help.

From the description, I think this (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/make-user-account-control-uac-stop-blacking-out-the-screen-in-windows-vista/) is what you need for your issue.
