View Full Version : Encoding speed with DVDRB and encoders

I'm using DVDrb with Procoder and I always noticed that at each encoding segment my computer starts at 3x and goes down to 2x or 1.8x by the end of the segment. Why doesn't the encode stay at 3x during the whole encoding segment?
Is it the limitation of the cpu or the hard drives or both?
This has been bugging me for awhile.

The explanation is very simple - The encoder runs 2 passes on the video stream. The first pass is always faster as it mainly gathers information for bitrate distribution which is then used in the second pass.

Thanks, now it makes sense.
Plus it won't bug me anymore why it was working that way.
