3D in MKV etc

With BluRay releases like Monsters vs Aliens already out in 3D (Not the old 3D the new 3DTV standard) how will this translate to reencodes in x264 in an MKV container or other computer friendly formats?

How would you view such content using shutter glasses for instance?

The Monsters vs. Aliens disk has *.ssif files in the ssif folder (a subfolder of the stream folder). Does anybody know the format of these files? Maybe they cannot be played back because AnyDVD HD doesn't decrypt them yet? I've also noticed that the total size of the disk is 77 GB, more than a Blu-ray disk can hold.

There's a spec online somewhere that explains this but basically the filesystem maps the 2 views into one "virtual file" which is why you have 77GB total size.

Try to change filename, from .ssif to .m2ts. Just in case it works. but I dont think so xD

It does not work. It *could* work if AnyDVD HD would be able to decrypt the SSIF folder, but I doubt it does.

But this is definitely not a BD-XL. It is a disk that already exists, that can be read in any BD drive.

This might be possible.

I have read a couple of reviews by down to earth people that really love the 3d features.
The cinema's here almost exlcusively show 3d movies now and judging from the public's response they want to have 3d at home too.

Heh, around here at most 1/10th of the air programming is in actual HD. I suspect this is common still. If they push 3d bluray, it's going to compete with regular and just slow down the universal adoption that much more. Then after that, surprise, new 48fps blu-ray. And of course, you'll need all new players just like for 3d today. No, thanks. I mean, heck, why don't we all just wait until that 3d hologram without the glasses format materializes and finalizes?

That's where you're wrong. Bluray is not a "need", for starters, and not even close to "everyone", even assuming it's close to a need.

Bluray adoption stays slow and the updates have only slowed it more. Add the bad economy and it seems plain stupid.
