First off, I'll accept that my problem may be with my player, but the Oppo 83 is considered to be pretty tolerant toward what it will play.
I'm using AnyDVD HD to rip, BD Rebuilder to build and Imgburn for burning. Everything works great with BD5's and 9's, but a BD 25 LTH or BD-RE isn't recognized. Media is Verbatim. They also won't play on a friends Samsung player. I don't know the model, but it has the ability to stream from Netflix so it's fairly new. They will play on the computer they were burned on. I've followed the guides and tried a burn on both iso and files and folders rips. All programs are in the default settings and I'm using the versions recommended by JDobbs. I ran BD Rebuilder Inspect and everything is OK. I've also tried both Patcher 1.06 and 1.04. Is there some check box that needs to be checked to successfully burn to BD media?
I'll probably go with BD5's and 9's in the future because of the lower cost and outstanding quality, but not being able to burn a BD bugs me if for no other reason than I bought a short stack of disks and want to use them. I appreciate any help. Thanks

I appreciate any help. Thanks Oppo or not -- it's working for pretty much everybody else -- so the problem has to be on your end. It could be the player. It might be the way you are burning. Or, it could be your burner (this is most likely the problem, if calibrated only slightly off they have issues). The fact that it is having issues on the Samsung seems to confirm a questionable burner or bad write parameters.
But BD-25, properly burned with a good burner, will work correctly on every player.
How are you burning the discs? Are you letting BD-RB do the ImgBurn settings and burn, or are you burning independently? If you're doing the burn -- what settings are you using? If you are letting BD-RB do the burn -- I'd put my money on a flakey burner.
I'm also not too confident in an LTH disc, as both your burner and your player must have firmware upgrades that support it. I looked at a couple Oppo players online and I didn't see LTH called out. But BD-RE should be compatible with pretty much any reasonably recent player.

I have a stack of 25, BD 25 LTH discs and they will not play in my LG BD390. Like you it will play any BD5 or 9 disc, even my very 1st encode wall-e over 2 years old on a cheap blank:confused: I'm sure it's the LTH discs.
woah!

LTH is the problem, they arent real fab blueray discs, but built on dvd fab machines... data storage only for these.

I've tried both ways. My preference is to let BD-RB handle the burn. Burner is a possibility. This is all on a new PC and the burner is a bulk OEM burner (LG WH10LS-30K). Not much support from LG as this is not a new model and there are no firmware updates available which is never a good sign. I'll pick up some non-LTH disks and try them. You want to put in a plug for a different burner? :)
The quality of a BD-5 and BD-9 is so outstanding that getting a good burn on a BD25 is more a matter of principle at this point. I saw no reason that what I was doing shouldn't be working.

I have been using Ritek-BR2-00, and have not had a bad disc yet! ( Approx. 70 discs )
I tried Optimum ( CMCMAG-BA3-00 ) and only 8 of 10 worked properly, with two of the discs would not even burn! I will not use this brand again!
IMO, try a different brand disc first. :)

Update. I picked up some regular (not LTH) Verbatim BD25's and got a successful burn with BD-RB doing the ImgBurn settings so it looks like it was the media. I'll still probably install another burner that is supported better than the LG is.

Go with the pioneer drive, you'll be happy then.
FYI: i tested Verbatim LTH 2x speed successfully.
BD Rebuilder 33.06, Imgburn, LG GGW H20L (Y05), Samsung 1600 (FW 2.08, Region B)
(despite the fact that Verbatim themselves state (http://www.verbatim.com/userfiles/file/BDR_LTHCompatibility_2%281%29.pdf) that these media will not work with a Samsung 1600)

They tested using a specific FW. New FW can change this incompatibility, also for the rest of the drives.
that's understood
still verbatim should state the fw version that was used because this way the datasheet is useless/incorrect

always lower the burn speed on IMGBurn if it doesnt work and make sure you set verify to OFF. Sometimes verify hits on a bad sector that really isnt bad at all and never closes the disk. I do everything you do and have never had an unsuccessful burn.

If one needs to tick off Verify, then I think this would never be a good burn.

...make sure you set verify to OFF. Sometimes verify hits on a bad sector that really isnt bad at all...Hmmm I don't think so--if ImgBurn says a sector isn't right, then it's a bad sector. Of course, your player may still sail-thru bad sectors, so you will have to decide whether a bad sector(s) is enough to relegate the disc to "coaster" status and try again.

Now I just know someone is going to totally disagree with me but I have never had a problem with Traxdata 25's, just make sure that they as very clean before burning. No bad priced either.

I pray not to disagree with you, because I ordered 50 for 80€, so I hope they are good. I put all my trust in Ritek Corp. here :)
Edit: I haven't received them yet, of course :)

They are X4 disks but burn them at X2.

FYI: Oppo claims on their Facebook page to be working to bring LTH compatibility (presumably) to all their BD players.
from http://www.facebook.com/OPPODigital (you may have to scroll down to get the relevant bits to load):
"OPPO
We are currently working to support LTH BD-R's ("Low to High", uses existing DVD-R/CD-R manufacturing lines to reduce costs). Please note, the player DOES fully support normal BD-R/RW discs. Thanks for your patience."
