View Full Version : Problem with MKV files on WMP

Hi,

I have a problem with audio in MKV containers. Here's the thing:

I have a couple of MKV files of which their audio files were encoded in AC3 format. As I was using a 2.1 speaker setup, the sound playing from the file was pretty soft so I opted to extract the audio file out using MKV extractor and recode it.

I converted the extracted ac3 file to wav using Belight and then from wav to mp3.
Finally with the mp3 file, I did a volume gain by using MP3gain (to standardise my base volume for all my video files)

I then remerged the mp3 file with the video file into a new MKV file using MKVmerge.

The problem now is that, some of the files are perfectly normal, playable with normal seeking times.
However, SOME of the videos have registered a video length of 12+ hrs (around x20 times the original file length) for a 40+ minutes file on WMP. If I tried to seek the file beyond the 40+ minute mark on WMV, the whole video just ends and skips to the next file in queue (if there is)

I then tried to rebuild frames using the new file using avidemux to correct this problem. This time round, WMP registered the correct video length but seek time is horribly long (minutes or so) that WMP can even hang on me.

Does anyone knows the solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance!

What video type and GOP size did you use when you encoded the video? Seek time is dependent on GOP size.

I am not too sure. It is those 720p american videos on bittorrent. Encoded in H264, settings of which I do not know.

All I know is that I wanted to change the audio from ac3 to mp3, so using mkvmerge, I merged the video portion of the original file with the new mp3 file. This results in x20 video time registered.

I then rebuilt the frames without recoding the video using copy video command. This gives me super long seek times.

Anyone can help?

Sorry, check our Rule #6 and the announcement on the newbies forum for our rules on downloads. We don't support anything you didn't rip yourself unless you go the extra mile to validate its legal status.
