SimpleDivX giving me error messages

does anyone here know how to use SimpleDivX and why it is not working for me ?

this program is from simpledivx.org/ and works in conjunction with
virtualdub. The problem is after I set all preference and then start, I get a quick black box appearring but not long enough to see what it says ,then it only takes 2 seconds for a whole dvd film to have finished into avi ,but even after SimpleDivX says film.avi
was created ,there is no film.avi.

does anyone know what is causing the program to malfunction ?

Yes ,of course I have, the VOB files are on my hard drive and are playable through all media players !

A dvd to avi converter I have not tested; cool ;)

I have googled a bit for that application. 3 questions:
1/ In the tab n° 8 output what does the log says about your test encode?
2/ In the tab n° 9 setup is the status ok for external programs?
3/ have you installed a video codec (like xvid) on your computer ?

It seems simpledivx does not check what is or need to be installed...
