Installing DVD-Rebuilder in Windows 7

So I did some searching on this thread but not seeing anything that would help me.

I just got a new computer which has Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). I downloaded DVD-Rebuilder Pro 1.28.2 and installed it. Tried to run the Reg-RB.exe program but got an error about an OCX file. Did some research and got that registered. Ran Reg-RB.exe and it rain, retrieved the key for my email address, and I selected to launch DVD Rebuilder.

The Reg-RB.exe program closed but DVD-Rebuilder never started. I tried double clicking on the Rebuilder.exe file and my mouse cursor briefly changes to an hourglass, then right back to the normal arrow. I look in Task Manager and don't show that Rebuilder.exe is running. (It does appear briefly after launching, but then almost immediately disappears.)

I tried doing Run as Administrator (even though I have administrator access), but same thing. I tried using the compatibility options like running the program in compatibility mode with Windows XP, but same thing. The program never launches.

Any ideas on how to get this working? Anyone seen or heard of this before?

Did you download it from the jdobbs site? There are hacked versions that do exactly what you are describing because DVD-RB fails the checksum upon program start.

I did download the files from your site. I actually clicked the links in the e-mail notification I had gotten for the 1.28.2 release. Still saved all those in my e-mail.

I am also having exactly the same problem. I reinstalled my pc with W7 Ultimate (64 bit) and install DVDRB but it simply will not launch.

I've gotten 3-4 reports where this has happened and every one of them was caused by the antivirus's "heuristic" scanning.

Sometimes I'm convinced that A/V software is as much trouble as the viruses they are supposed to prevent.

I'm having trouble installing in W7 as well, will try disabling my ESET Security Suite,
What version of Avisynth do you recommend for W7 64bit ?

What version of Avisynth do you recommend for W7 64bit ? I recommend the version that is linked in the first post of the bug thread. If you "get creative" with others under 64 bit Win7 the likelihood of failure is great.

Trying to install BD-RBV03804,
logged on as administrator, disabled security,

component mentioned in error message is there,
MSCOMCTL.OCX and reg_MSCOMCTL

but still get error message below,
as a bit of a noob, am i missing something ?

Did you "log on" as an administrator, or did you "run" BD-Rebuilder as an administrator. You need to do the latter. Right-click on the BD-Rebuilder exe file and select "Run as an administrator".

as a bit of a noob, am i missing something ? Normally MSCOMCTL.OCX is already installed (as a part of Windows), but occasionally for reasons I don't know -- it is missing. I assume it has something to do with non-standard selections made during the Win7 install.

Just right click on REG_MSCOMCTL.BAT and "Run as Administrator". That will register the OCX I've included with BD-RB.

Didn't know that one, sounds good, I'll try it later,
W7 came pre-installed on Toshiba Satellite L775-119 laptop,
I'll do the .bat file b4 trying BD-R again.

Didnt know about right click and "Run as administrator"
In XP, just left clicked, thought if signed on as a admin, etc,
On my W7 learning kurve ! (lol)

Please, for Christ's sake, why is it not possible to treat DVD-Rebuilder and BD-Rebuilder separately?

The thread title says DVD-RB, but around post #7 the whole topic changes to BD-RB. :mad:

DVD-RB needs neither Haali nor ffdshow, and at least for the free version of DVD-RB I am not so sure how it behaves with AviSynth 2.8.


Again: Please make separate threads for DVD-RB and BD-RB. Right now the situation is utterly confusing (to say it in a friendly way...)

Tried everything still a no go with the pro version 1.282. I tried the Freebie version and it installed and ran fine.

As an update I just did a fresh install of W7 Ultimate.

Prior to installing Comodo Internet Security I installed DVDRB Pro and it worked instantly.

I then installed Comodo and DVDRB wouldn't boot at all regardless of what I enabled or disabled in Comodo.

I uninstalled Comodo and 'suprise suprise' DVDRB did boot immediately.

So Mr Dobbs you were correct thanks for your response.

I have just installed Microsoft Security freebie and DVDRB Pro works with it :D
