Hi Everyone,

I have done a few tests as to high I can set the custom size and it still fit comfortably on a 25GB disc.

When I set the size at 24300mb I finish up with approx 500mb of free space on the disc.

The trouble is that if I set it any higher (24400mb and above) BD does not reencode the video (it actually states that in the log) and therefore the size of the original BD is not reduced.

I can live with what I currently have but I am curious why it does not reencode(reduce) beyond a custom size of 24300mb

Thanks
Damien

DamienWhy would you ever want to reencode a video to make it larger than the original? That's what BD-RB is telling you.

If you really want to... you can set "FORCE_ENCODE=1" to the INI file (see HIDDENOPTS.TXT). But you will actually be reducing the quality of your output while making the video larger -- for no reason but to feel better about filling up a disc...

the size of the original BD is not reduced If it were "reduced" you'd have even more space left unused...I can live with what I currently have but I am curious why it does not reencode(reduce) beyond a custom size of 24300mbIt will go beyond that size (there's really no limit) -- but only when the original is large enough to require it.

Hi Mate,

What I am saying is that if I start out with a movie at 30GB
and put it through BD Rebuilder with a custom size of 24300mb, I will end up with approx 500mb of free space on the BD-R (25GB) once I burn it. That is all fine.

If I take the same movie (30GB) and adjust the output up to 24400mb, for some reason it does not reencode the video (states this in the log)and I end up with result that is far too big to fit on that same type of BD-R.

The odd thing for me is that in both circumstances the video needs reencoding(reducing) and yet anything above 24300mb
it chooses not to do so.

I am using "Highest Quality" setting.

There must be something I am missing.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Damien

Damien If BD-RB says it doesn't need to be reencoded -- then it is a fact. It's easy to tell -- when it is done is it small enough to fit? You said that there is still 500MB left over even though it doesn't reencode... that pretty much settles it. If it needed reducing it wouldn't fit, would it?

The 30GB is the size with all streams -- and the output is based on what is selected/no selected.

Hi Again,
Thanks for the feedback.
I will have another go tonight with one of the Lord of the rings films (which should definately need reencoding) and I will let you know how I go.
