hi
i have 2 mkv files
both converted the same way with automkv
one plays ok in wmp11 one dont...(just choppy audio can hear)
files are:x264 with MP3 in MKV container

i have tried all codecs to setup with wmp11 like ffdshow, coreavc to be played but seems to me like WMP11 is choosing some mkv to play and some not to play.

seems to me it could be some kind of directshow filter problem when haali with ffdshow or coreavc will not load but i may be mistaken.
even by changing MERIT of codec filter or turn off ffdshow or coreavc will not work..

only choppy audio output i can hear on some files and the others play OK....and that is a problem..all were converted same way

i tried install media player clasic-home cinema and this player dont have any issue...just wmp11.

it is not logical that some files play and some with the same specification (from the same converter) dont play

can someone point me direction where can be a problem.
thanks

:thanks:

PS-sorry i believe i put it to wrong topic and not to x264/AVC,,,can someone move it there from good moderators...thanks

It's quite logical:
It seems that your system is not powerfull enough to play H264 MKV files in software mode(it's useful to put your system specifications here)
WMP11 is not the perfect player for those kind of files because it loads only certain codecs/filters; ffdshow h264 decoder ,CoreAVC(if it is set as "prefered decoder") or Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder if you're running W7. If you have also subtitles you use VSFilter(DirectVobSub). With this kind of set up you cannot have hardware acceleration(DXVA) for H264 files (no matter your video card support it)because the first two decoders are software h264 decoders ; Not even in the case you're using Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder ,you cannot make that work in DXVA mode because when you're using an external sub. filter(DirectVobSub) the DXVA is broken.
It seems that your mkv files play properly only when you use DXVA decoders(from MPC-HC) and you use a player that has its own subtile filters(MPC-HC).

Why on Earth would you use WMP11?

thanks for answers

my system is powerfull enough to play 1080p rips with bitrate up to 10000-15000 so that idea is logically wrong..

any other reliable ideas why wmp11 having issue to play avc/mp3 in mkv according to my descriptions?

i have 2 identical files ...both play with windows media player classic-home cinema OK....one of them WMP11 just dont play and i would like to find out why?

thanks for other input of someone who knows wmp11 well...i am just curious you know guys...:thanks:

I've seen the same issue. It seems WMP11 is trying to parse the MKV file as an MP3 file and therefor only plays audio, but of course chokes up a lot cause a lot of the data is not really mp3. However, since I don't use MP3 with MKV (I prefer AAC/Vorbis) and I don't really use WMP11 I never investigated what exactly was happening.

Not really helpful, but at least so you know you are not alone. :)

2 identical means that i have convert 2 movies from series dvd same way in automkv and one play and one just dont play just chokes...

and i would like to find out what bothers wmp11 from playing that file....i thinks it will have something to do with directshow filter or so but i am not expert...

any other ideas please?
