AviDemux - Aspect Ratio

G'day All,
Warning Novice lurks here.
Firstly, where do I post this question?

My son records TV for me with the MS Media Centre, it outputs .WTV. (Yeah I know but he doesn't want to change from it :-( bloody kids now days.)

I convert that to DVR-MS.

Then using DVRMSToolbox I convert it to MPEG.

Then I want to trim the start and end bits and cut out the ads in Premier 6 but it doesn't like the file. So I tried AviDemux which looks good but when it opens the file it thinks it is 4:3 not 16:9. Great look if your fat but not good for general viewing.

Question 1). Can I tell AviDemux the correct ratio?

Then I will burn the result to DVD with Flick so it does not re-encode it.


Question 2). Is there an easier way suitable for a novice to edit the ads and burn to DVD?

Can I tell AviDemux the correct ratio?

Avidemux will automatically read the aspect ratio from MPEG-2 content, and then you can check the "As Input" box in the video encoder configuration. If just cutting and joining, the AR info will be preserved.

Is there an easier way suitable for a novice to edit the ads and burn to DVD?

Avidemux is pretty good for this sort of task. Make sure you cut only on keyframes (I frames), and you may wish to check the audio delay with DGIndex (which IMO is more accurate in reporting delay information because it uses a different calculation method).

Sigh, audio sync is stuffed, I should have read your post more carefully. Longer learning curve than I had hoped .. I'm off to google DGIndex.
