Is Reclock a necessity nowadays? Aren't players, renderers, video cards, etc. advanced enough after all these years to tackle the fps, hz isuues themselves?
I just don't like the idea of adding another level of complexity by installing reclock.

Your opinions would really be appreciated.

It all depends on your definition of necessary :)

Personally, I'm not sensitive to jitter / tearing. My display seems to be fine at 60hz using EVR-CP.

The one area I feel ReClock is ESSENTIAL is when playing back typical sped-up PAL content. Getting the slowdown is a truly wonderful thing :)

I have a 17" display with a 1280 x 1024 / 85hz max resolution. I also can't notice any difference between 60, 72 and 75 hz modes, no matter if the file is 24, 25 or 30 fps. Maybe it's my eyes or something. :)

for me is a very good plus
my plasma support 23.976/24p/50/59.97/60 so being able to switch to correct framerate/refresh is very pleasant for me
i have a smooth silk like vision
(and.. my wife is very sensible to for jitter/judder and any kind of video/audio imperfection!)

I'm quite sensitive to judder etc too. Reclock becomes useful outputting to a different tv format, such as PAL from a NTSC source or vice versa. Most PAL tv's also support NTSC, however it is still better to leave it in PAL mode simply because NTSC has a lower quality colour system and also resolution but thats less of an issue with computer to TV unless specifically outputting standard def video. For NTSC thats 720x480 and PAL 720x576.

Even with NTSC sourced video, outputting to the TV results in less accurate colour reproduction and really isn't worth the hassle.

For output over HDMI reclock may not be necessary, but over Analogue connections (including component) it can be advantageous.
