Hi Everyone
Wondering if someone would be kind enough to offer me some help.
I have been given some .mov video files to try and convert into a DVD. However, my computer cannot recognise which codec the .mov files are using. I have installed the more popular Divx and Xvid codecs but to no avail. I need to find out what the codec is so I can open them, edit them and convert them into a DVD with menus.
Moderators, sincere apologies if this post is in the wrong forum.
Thanking you all in advance.
PS: Can someone be kind enough to tell me which application I need to edit these .mov files ?

.mov are playable with QuickTime installed. DVD Flick will convert them to DVD.

Hi CWR03, thank you for the advice. I think I did not write my original request properly. I recognised .mov as a QuickTime file. I have Apple QuickTime installed. However, when I play the file, I get sound but no picture. Something tells me that this .mov file is encoded with some other codec. I want to know how to find out what this codec is so I can download the codec and be able to play the file.
As for DVD Flick, thanks again. I have downloaded from Sourceforge and will install over the weekend to try. Not too sure if the DVD will work if I cannot see the video of these files ?
I also need to find out how to open and edit the .mov files to break the files into sections which would then become my menu points.
Thank you for your help thus far but would be most grateful if you could provide a bit more help. I really am lost.

Is the QuicktimePlayer showing you infos about the file? Open your .mov and press [STRG]+I to get the properties.
You could also try "MediaInfo", this program knows a lot of containers/codecs and shows you detailed infos.
It is free, find it here: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
Good luck.

Also beware that the latest version of quicktime 7.6.6 released a few days ago causes many problems , so avoid it or install and older version
The other common quicktime format that you may have problems with is prores, but you should identify the video format used with mediainfo as suggested above first
