ATi video cards in Linux...

I just put Red Hat Linux 7.1 on as a dual boot on my computer. Everything worked fine up to the configuring my video with X Window. Testing any setup caused my screen to just go blank. I have an ATI Rage Fury Pro... Has anyone had any problems with that card? Also, if it isn't supported, which it appears any 128 pro cards aren't, is there any way to get a driver that can or any known fix out there?

Rage 128 is supported, but Rage Fury Pro should be RagePro chipset? Anyway, if the problem still persist in RH setup, just skip the X configuration and let RH setup completes the installation. After all done and restart, login as root and run Xconfigurator in shell, or run xf86cfg. I would suggest you try Xconfigurator first since the latter is a bit hairy for novice. Also, you should have a monitor manual ready in case you need to fill in the sync frequency manually if the config program fail to probe your mon's sync frequency.

I've had small problems with TV out on my AIW 128 under linux. Still working on it.

Here's my situation, which might help you:

I have my linux box hooked to my TV via AIW128. I also have a very crappy monitor hooked up, which only supports 640x480. The S-Video out from the AIW is hooked to a radio shack 4-to-1 switchbox, so I can switch my TV display between my DVD player, vcr, and computer.

If I boot Linux without my switchbox set to computer (basically, no TV out), I boot fine to the monitor.

If I boot linux with the TV ON (switchbox set to display computer output), I get linux on the TV, but the monitor goes screwy, I think due to the TV using a 800x600 resolution, but the monitor can't do it.

Try booting with and without the TV on, and see if there's any difference.

I think the Rage 128 Pro is on the list of supported cards of RedHat 7.1. I had it installed on my last computer (that had an Rage 128 Pro), and it worked fine in the installation and after it.

For my present computer to work with RedHat 7.1, I had to install the last release of XFree86, since it has a Radeon and the radeon drivers on RedHat 7.1 doesn't work with it.

But now it's working ok, at least using the SVGA drivers, there's no driver for the Mobility Radeon still.
