Help me get the subtitles out?

I am unable to extract or even properly view the subtitles on this (sample here (http://www.mediafire.com/?z5dhew2qznj)) DVD. VobSub gives me a message saying that the indexing failed. I've never seen that one before. Also when I try to play the DVD The subtitles are out of sync by an incredible margin. Everything else works fine though.
Can anyone please help me here? I'm stumped.

Edit:
Well DVDSubEdit gave me a .sup which I managed to turn into vobsub with SubtitleCreator. Now I'm encoding the video and when it's done we'll see how it all worked out.

Edit 2:
Well it seemed to work! There are a couple problems though. The subs were delayed by about 8.5 seconds, which I fixed while muxing. Also the subs are huge, colorful and take up a huge portion of the picture.
