I just started using GKnot after having a difficult time with Xmpeg. Much easier to use. I do have one problem. I can't get the audio mixed in. I am trying to convert some MPEG-2 files into Divx 4. When I run DVD2AVI it creates a .mpa audio file, which is playable by itself. When I specify this as the sound file the encoder complains about they're being no data. I chose MP3 as the encode method is that correct? Anything else wrong?

As far as I know you can't have .mpa audio with divx. It has to be an .mp3, .ac3 or other audio format, but not .mpa. So you have to convert it to .wav first and then to .mp3. Read doom9 guide - everything is explained there very clearly.

What's a good program to convert the files. And why does DVD2AVI create a file that has to be converted later? Wouldn't it be easier if it would only create ac3 and mp3 files?

As I said befor - you have to convert it to .wav - guide is here:
http://www.doom9.org/svcd2divx.htm
The best program for .wav - .mp3 conversion is lame. Use --alt-preset 128 command. You can use higer value depending on what average bitrate you want to achieve.
And if you're looking for a program that can do .ac3 - .mp3 conversion without any additional files - BeSweet should be your choice. Look for a AC3toMP3 guide.
