Hello guys, I am new to this forum corrrect me if I make mistake......
Recently I installed a new motherboard, it has SATA interface, I bought a converter to attach my IDE Hard drive to it, but for some reasons the sysytem OR BIOS doesn't recognize it & it goes to boot disk failure.....
I enabled the SATA controller in BIOS
I installed the SATA controler software that came with the motherboard
The light on the converter is lit, a sign of power supply
......Still doesn't work.......
Any suggestions please.........:

Call the manufacturer and ask them about it.

Did you also plug power into the hard drive?

Your bios has to be in the slower IDE compatibility mode for it to work I believe, as the IDE drive doesn't support SATA functions. Only real reason why you'd go the way you habe is if your mb doesn't have and IDE connnector, as using a converter won't be any faster at all (potentially slower in fact)! than connecting an IDE drive directly to the IDE port (if present).

& it goes to boot disk failure.....

Also look in bios to check your boot priority.
Make sure itīs set to boot from CD 1st.

Thanks guys,

I tried all of the Above, everything suggested, still doesn't work. however there might be a compatibility issue of IDE Drive to vonvert into SATA, I am only guessing, however still waiting for miracolus advice, .....before I make big move....
thanks

Stupid question: is jumper on IDE drive set at Master?

Another "stupid question": do you have all SATA ports enabled in BIOS and set to auto detect?

Hi there,

Coming in late in the thread but that will, maybe, give other insights...

Hello guys, I am new to this forum corrrect me if I make mistake......
Recently I installed a new motherboard, it has SATA interface,
Please provide:
1/ Brand and model of your new mother-board;
2/ Specs for your different drives (HD, DVD, IDE, SATA etc...) and the converter;
3/ What different connections you have tried to get your rig working?

I bought a converter to attach my IDE Hard drive to it, but for some reasons the sysytem OR BIOS doesn't recognize it & it goes to boot disk failure.....
Unless your converter (or MB) has different specifications, a IDE HD-drive (connected via the converter) cannot be bootable in the bios!

I enabled the SATA controller in BIOS
I installed the SATA controler software that came with the motherboard...

Does your MB have an IDE connector?
If so, does your MB booklet says something about some SATA connector(s) to be reserved when the IDE connector is used?

To resume I had a very hard time setting up an ASUS-PK MB and a converter to work with my old (IDE) drives but it is possible.

Please give some answers and infos to get things going :thanks:

hello guys, its good to listen to various opinions.

the motherboard that I have is GA-M61PME-S2P with AMD Sempron CPU (2.11Ghz with 2G Ram), on the

motherboard there is two SATA2 interfaces and one IDE Interface, I have one IDE DVD writer and one IDE CD writer and a IDE

Hard drive, two of them can be connected to one IDE interface, so I bought the converter to use one of the SATA interface,

The converter I bought on the ebay doesn't have manufacturer name

the motherboard booklet doesn't say anything about reserved IDE interface

Right now I am trying only Hard drive to be connected via converter but, it is not working, DVD and CD drives are disconnected

I have triead setting jumpers to master and slave as well as without jumper, doesn't work

frustrated

All the SATA Ports are eenabled in BIOS

It sounds like you are trying to use the IDE drive through the SATA adaptor as the boot drive. BigDid says this will not work. Do you really need one DVD writer and one CD writer on the same computer since a DVD writer can also write CDs? You may have to connect the drive via IDE cable.

^ This
CD drives have as much a place in a PC as floppy disk drives.
Just make sure you have the master / slave jumpers on the back of your DVD and HD drive set correctly . Master drive should also connect at the end of the ribbon.

Master drive should also connect at the end of the ribbon.
I realize it is off-topic, but I cannot resist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Drive_Electronics#Master_and_slave_clarification

If only drive is on the cable it should be connected to the end of ribbon.

Thanks for your insight, BIGDID says that it won't work......if it won't work then that is fine but, if you could explain why, ( I

mean from the Technical side) therefore in the future I won't go for converters OR advice anybody else......

I bought the converter to use on one of these SATA interfaces rather then buying SATA hard drive ( the cheapset option in this

recesion)

Thanks

I can't advise the technical reasons why it won't work as a boot disk, but I can tell you that many reviews of this and similar products say the same thing.

Hi there,

Thanks for the infos. I have DL your MB manual. What I see is:

1/ Your MB is a classic 2008 IDE + SATA configuration (recent MB are reverse: SATA+IDE)
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=3009
2/ As a micro ATX, you have less possibilities: only 1 IDE connector (for 2 drives), 2 SATA connectors, 2 ram connectors etc...
3/ Your installation has to be made the old fashion way:
a- Use the MB-IDE connector for 1 CD/DVD drive AND your HD
b- To use the SATA you need to use the drivers on floppy during WINDOWS installation.

Your main problem (as related) is your HD not working with the converter; quick solution (already proposed in the 3/a) :
4/ use the HD drive with your MB-IDE connector + 1 CD or DVD drive
5/ make your config work with Windows
6/ After and only AFTER try getting your 2nd cd/dvd drive to work with the converter (maybe the converter is dead ...?).

Other reflexions:
I thought you were talking of a PCI card giving 1 full IDE connector (2drives) and 1 or 2 more sata connectors (my rig)
Your converter seems more something like that:
http://www.cooldrives.com/serial-ata---ata-atapi-ide-interface-adapter.html*
If so, even if not really specified, I have read that only ONE IDE drive can be connected per converter.

If my 4-5/ solution does not work it should be more related to usual suspects in a classic IDE configuration, but please try it first.

Hi,

I will not ask what "everything" is.. specially after reading this thread:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=153857

I have to agree with Neuron2 (for a change) on that one.
Last advice; better give your rig and/or hardware problems to a professional.
