View Full Version : different size than predefined.

Hi,
I have an old family dvd and I tested AutoGK with it; Under “Predefined size” I chose “1CD (700 MB)” but the resulting video came to be 1.07 GiB with 1399 Kbps as bitrate and not 700MB!
1) any idea how to result in an exact predefined size video file for XVID?
2) is there anyway too to set our own bitrate in AutoGK?
thanks.

Check the general FAQ sticky thread, above. FAQ 6.3 might be your problem.

right, here are results.
I found out there's on the system something called “ffdshow video decoder” which has xvid in there. After some research i made here’s what I came up with:
i disabled xvid from ffdshow video decoder configuration window. but then xvid videos were loading with divx logo on bottom. Anyway there was still inaccuracy in predefined size. At the end I installed standalone xvid that's another than within ffdshow video decoder which i kept disabled.
So problem of predefined size in autogk is no more. Thanks for your hint TAC109.
There’s still one problem.
the process in autogk took around 6 hours to complete and here’s the log of a test made with autgk on a family old vhs made dvd somewhere:

====================================================
is this due to our old machine or is it that autogk really takes 6 hours time to complete?
Thanks.

My i7 Windows7 machine rarely takes more than 40 minutes max for a movie length file.

Hi there,
Hi,
...
2) is there anyway too to set our own bitrate in AutoGK?
No, but but you can use target quality and 1 pass encoding; default is 75% which will give good to very good quality but no control on the size; see step3 in the tutorial.
here’s the log of a test made with autgk on a family old vhs made dvd somewhere:...
is this due to our old machine or is it that autogk really takes 6 hours time to complete?
Yes, 6 hours for a 2 pass encode AND older CPU is not uncommon.
Thanks for the log, it provides useful information on the compressibility of your source (bad):
[4/2/2010 10:00:35 PM] Compressibility percentage is: 31.32
and the quality of your encode (very low):
[4/2/2010 10:00:36 PM] Chosen resolution is: 640x352 ( AR: 1.82 )
[4/2/2010 10:00:36 PM] Predicted comptest value is: 32.49%
What is your goal?
Size => if so, use 2 pass but let AGK fix the width (Auto width) ; you should end with a 700Mb encode with medium to good quality but with 512 or lower width !!
Quality => use a 70 to 75% 1 pass full width (720); you should end with a much higher size due to the low compressibility of your source (1 Gb or more)
Let us know your results :thanks:

Assuming my long duration problem is from the dvd writer, i copied the dvd files to the hard disk and used AutoGK again with the dvd files but i’m sure now this long duration is due to old machine unfortunately and not from AutoGK at the end. so it only takes 40 minutes max for a movie length file on a good PC? just wow.
