Can a video card help render times?

Not for ripping, but for changing the format of video. I do a lot of resizing and format changing (from plain avi to plain mpg and vice-versa sometimes, no divx) and was wondering if there's a chance that a video card might actually make a difference.

sorry to disappoint you. Faster mobo (chipset), CPU, memory, harddisk will enhance performance. Faster video cards will only get you higher framerates in games, not in rendering.
