I was wondering if we could add a eac3 s/pdif encode feature in ffdshow audio decoder for those people that cannot bitstream DTS-MA or DTS-HD through HDMI because the amplifier can't decode these formats. DTS encoding would be great also but I realize it requires purchasing of the SurCode and that isn't feasible in an open-source solution so e-ac3 would be a better option than the ac3 that ffdshow has now.

Thanks :)

I realized you wanted e-ac3. It seams strange that you have a receiver that decodes e-ac3, but not dolbyhd, dts-ma etc.

edit: re-encoding anything is a loss of quality. So I would stick with the very good ac3 @ 640, or if you think you can hear the difference between that and the Lossless formats, than upgrade your receiver.

Is there a way to at least take the DTS-HD MA and encode on-the-fly to DTS provided SurCode is already installed and that the user has a minimum processor for in-sync encoding.

Well DTS-HD MA has a DTS core.

First thing I would try is to enable DTS passthrough in the ffdshow audio output options.

edit: I found a DTS-HD MA source, and enabling DTS passthrough in ffdshow works.
