Hello all -
I get an occasional hang during the encoding - it's at 99% completion, just about to finish.
I end up with Virtualdub's status window, Xvid's "display encoding status" window
and the main Vdub window stuck on the screen - and I have to use task manager to cancel it.

This morning I left it for a few minutes to see if anything would happen, and Vdub was
able to put up a message saying it had detected a deadlock. (But it didn't recover).

I'm using Vdub 1,98. I left a message on the forums @ virtualdub.org, but so far no response.

I noticed if I use the Xvid configuration panel to deselect the "display encoding status" window,
the encoding always ends normally.

Which operating system and Xvid version are you using?

Version 1.22 (Koepi's) and XP SP3.

Have you tried reinstalling Xvid codec, because I'm using the same version of Xvid and VirtualDub and it works fine here.

I did reinstall, but have since reinstalled completely. Never got to the bottom of it, since it didn't happen every time.
I saw it once before about a year ago, then it disappeared for a while only to return.

Since that time, I may have uninstalled it various times - I suspect I've got a file mismatch somewhere.
If I ever get to the bottom of it, I'll update the post.

Thanks for responding.

Check that the last frame of the video (or last frame of a selection) isn't a drop frame (indicated with [D] in the frame info)

Just uncheck in the XVID settings the option that makes the encoding status visible. It seems to me that as long as that window is opened the codec is not un-initialized properly (not unloaded, whatever) and that makes Virtualdub hang.

I've had issues with it but no issues with the option unchecked.
