Upscale via a re-encode or let the blu ray player upscale?

I have nearly every Disney DVD, with a very good percentage being special editions, etc and some are worth a few boob now!

So, with that in mind it is time to back these up, and store away the originals, but I am at a dilemma or which way to go?

What would give me the best results:-

1...use ripbot and upscale the DVD to 1280x720 AVCHD DVD5?

2...Just make a normal DVD back up and let my blu ray player upscale the picture when playing?

The blu ray player in question is a Sony BDP-S360, which is shipping this week, so have not had the pleasure of testing its upscaling capabilities.

Well, try it both ways.

Chances are, it won't be worth the hassle of doing a software upscale to AVCHD. I'd just do a high quality DVD backup and let the BluRay player upscale this.

It's only you who can decide on this issue.
For me it's clear: 1:1 Copy and leave the upscaling either to my TV or to my BD player (better than the TV, which TV is above average).
I think all Disneys can be processed DVD9->DVD5 (1 audio, 1+ subtitles, o menus, no extras) without sensible quality losses.
