Powerdvd 7.3 BD playback blocky on HDD

I'm running PowerDVD 7.3..3119a, combined with AnyDVD.

When I play back a BD in my pc's BD player ,everything is smooth and fine.

However, if I rip it to my hd, playback is all kinds of blockiness and stuttering in the video. The *.mts file will play fine in MPC and VLC.

Anyone have a suggestion on what's happenning here with Powerdvd?

Hmmm it oughta play just fine, so I can only assume that either the HDD is very badly fragmented, or in need of chkdsk (repair), or that your HDD's device controller may have slipped into PIO mode and not UDMA. I don't think tho that it's a PDVD problem.

I defrag the hard drive reularly and I just checked and it's fine.

The hd is a sata and, of course, there is no pio/dma on that kind of controller that is as fast as sata natively.

I agree that it's probably not a PDVD problem.

I dunno then; yes in re-reading yr post you said already other players were OK. Sorry I have PDVD as you and can't think what might confuse it. I guess I'd try a re-install of the program though I know it's a PIA. Did it EVER WORK i.e. did it stop playing recently, or has playback from the HDD always been a problem?

From the hdd it's always been a problem. Have tried other ver prior to 3119a w/same results.

Btw, Win xp sp2, Core 2 duo @ 2.4, 4gb ram.

I would recommend upgrading to 4617, or 4617a if you cannot find 4617 or it will not install. This is the last version of PDVD7 that is "fully functional" (but see below) and does fix some bugs in early versions.

You will lose the ability to to playback Blu-ray discs from folder though. they need to be in an iso.

You know, I've been dealing with this for so long, that I left out a very important bit of info.

A bd folder that has been ripped from the original bd does playback fine.

It's when I re-encode through tsmuxer , Megui (standalone blu-ray, 2 pass preset) and then tsmusxer again ( Blu-ray disc or Avchd disc output) that the result is problematic.

The folder structure and file format is virtually the same as the original, so theoretically it should play fine. And, if I burn to dvd-dl or bd-25 it plays just fine on my standalone bd player (Pio bdp-51)

Oh. Well that's a whole other issue. It sounds like the Cyberlink decoder just does not like the way the video has been re-encoded. Again, upgrading to the last decent version may fix it, but the chances are not so high and certainly no guarantees!

I had tried newer versions in the past and even after mounting the iso (Daemon), the same blocky resuts.
You're probably right that there's someting in their decoder that doesn't like the encode.

What version of x264 are you using? Perhaps some version PowerDVD suffers/suffered from the weightp issue that popped up in a few other software decoders?

Currently, x264 1442 Komisar/Megui 3.4.2

But have had the same issue w/1251 Jeebs, back in Sept as well as earlier builds.
