Everything the devs at the time could change we changed. The icons are not the same as they used to be, we remade them from scratch. You obviously notice we kept most of the original style just made them a bit bigger and smoother.

As always if anyone can improve the looks of MPC-HC on a deeper level than just replacing the button images: Patches are welcome.

Then maybe you can do something about this http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/mpc-hc/ticket/1598 cause I really can't see a reasonable reason for why it's not yet in the SVN

Because no-one provided a updated patch, all i see in the ticket are pre-patched code files, which is not acceptable for easy review and commiting.

The patch it's against 3862 (follow the mediafire link http://www.mediafire.com/?nbb4gclb828ax) so to me it seems to be updated
But if needed it can be more updated thanks to Blitzker :)

@Kurtnoise it's a matter of taste:) but anyway it's OPTIONAL so nobody it's forcing you to use it (it's NOT enable by default)!

Like i said, its not a patch.
He has a zip with modified source files, thats not a patch. How do i know which lines are modified?

A patch is a special file that just holds the information about what actually changed, much easier to review changes and apply them.

So the BE_Mod_r3830.diff it's not what you're looking for ? cause I've used this to "Apply patch " (using TortoiseSVN) and it's working fine here

EDIT Ouch sorry! I've jut downloaded the new 3862 patch and you're right that one has no diff file but the old one(in the "OLD" folder) has one and also if needed I can provide a diff file too

tetsuo55

Mercury_22 if you can provide us with a proper .diff based on a very recent revision I'm sure it will get committed asap(assuming it does not need any comments).
You can attach a diff to the ticket so it can be reviewed on trac itself.

The MPC-HC Flatro Theme is a build on the Metro Toolbar Skin and includes additional changes to the MPC-HC GUI.

http://i60.tinypic.com/1zbs2o3.png

MPC-HC Flatro Theme Includes:
- New MPC-HC icon logo integrated into the mpc-hc64.exe and unins000.exe (see image title and top bar for example).
- All media file icons will be automatically replaced with the new logo.
- Added new metro/flat inspired icons to the bottom status bar. Includes new music/video file icon, CD/DVD icon, surround sound icon, and volume enabled and disabled icons.

Hope you enjoy!

Notes:
- Currently, the .exe replacement will only work for those who are running MPC-HC v1.7.3 x64 (these changes will not work for 32bit or older versions).
- Download also includes install instructions. Follow carefully.
- This is a work in progress. Expect more updates throughout the year.

Thank you SO MUCH! Also, for the icons! You're a genius, I love your work.

Some tips to make mpciconlib.dll much smaller:
1) Use png compression for 256x256 icon.
2) Remove 128x128 icon. It is useless because Windows uses the 256x256 one for all larger views.
3) Remove 64x64 icon. Also not used by Windows.

Some video extensions you forgot:
amv, divx, rmvb, m2ts, ogv (ogg video), 3gp, dv, mxf, asf, bdmv (bluray index), mpls (blu-ray playlist)

Some audio extensions:
oga (ogg audio), opus

Playlists:
m3u, mpcpl

Some mistakes:
mka is audio
rm is practically always video
pls is a playlist file

Can you also add two generic icons for audio and video? Those are useful for labeling rare extensions.

Can you also add an archive with the .ico files? That allows building a custom dll.

Of course! Thank you! I'll work on it and ask for your final approval as soon as the port is finished! :D

I L-O-V-E the taskbar buttons and the playlist icon! Also, nice optimization of the .dll!

You should work on the seekbar if you have the time, it's the only thing non-Flatrofied now!

The MPC-BE seekbar is closer to a flat style, so maybe porting that to your version would be easier to work on? (also, the OSD menu with the close and lock buttons that hover on the top-right of the video on BE would be a nice addition, if Flatro-fied!) - I'm not a coder at all, so I'm sorry for asking things and not being of much help to execute it... :(

But I'm pretty sure the BE team would be glad to help you on getting the code resources to do it! :)

I'm not really sure how to say this exactly but you have no idea how thankful I am. I moved to BE a long time ago because I couldn't stand the 20 year old looks of HC and how you fixed it while keeping things clean and fast. Really, you're a blessing to this software!

@nautilus7, Thank you and if you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to post them :)

@vBm, I'll be sure to add the requested file extensions from user Stanzilla in the next coming days. Thank you.

@Dark Eiri, Sounds great! I look forward to seeing your port :) I plan on expanding the icon library with any requested file extensions I receive from users. I'll have the .ico files available to you and anyone who would like to build their own custom lib.dll in upcoming Flatro Theme versions.

In regards to the seekbar customization, I've been researching how to change the look of the MPC-HC seekbar since I began work on the Flatro Theme. But according to MPC-HC's Project Manager

The volume and seek bar's cannot be made skinnable without a massive refactoring of the gui code.

And if anyone considers doing that they might as well rewrite the gui in QT to make it not only faster but also completely skinnable (to the point that you could even change the gui to look like a star if you wanted to).

Since I am not very familiar with the programming languages used in MPC-HC (such as C++ etc), I would definitely need assistance from the MPC-HC project developers to make such a large undertaken happen.

But I will keep on improving the Flatro theme and maybe even compile a custom installer (instead of the end-user having to replace files from a pre-existing install).

Whenever someone asks me what is a great multimedia player for them to use, I always recommend MPC-HC. But unfortunately, the first thing I hear out of their mouths is how dated the GUI looks. This reason alone is why some users switch to other media players like VLC and Potplayer. But to me, because of MPC-HC's small footprint and overall playback quality (among many other advantages), I've always preferred MPC-HC over the rest. Especially with the addition of madVR.

In terms of customizing MPC-BE, I'll have a look into this media player when I have some more downtime.

I also want to personally thank you for your support, feedback, and kind words on my little side-project. I too have been a fan of MPC-HC since I discovered the multimedia player one year ago. Put off by its current GUI, it has led me to customize bits and pieces of the player to help give it a more updated/modern look based off of current metro/flat/semi-flat design trends.

Here are some elements and overall design changes I would love to integrate into MPC-HC's GUI with the help of the MPC-HC team...

@twtrade:

I finished porting the icons to MPC-BE. Below there's an image of how they turned out - if I have your approval on them, I'll upload the .dll - can I call the set "Flatro Dark (twtrade's Flatro for MPC-BE)"? Or would you prefer to be credited as "bycycleestate", as on DeviantArt?

http://i62.tinypic.com/2rdbxw4.png

Also there's no problem if you don't like the results and don't want it to be public. If that's the case, I'll keep them for my private use only :D
