Is it possible to use this filter purely for denoising as opposed to deinterlacing? If so, which version should I use and with what parameters etc?

If not then how can I achieve similar denoise results with other filters?

TGMC's prime ability is denoising and keeping grain, side effect is bobbing,
so it will output double the frames and you decide if you keep odd, even or merge.

LaTo's MCTD is denoising beautifully as well.

was already discussed. not a good idea.
but you can use its prefiltering method for better motion vector search.
