best way to send a movie file

Okay so my friend has a film on DVD that he wants me to watch. He has a mac and I have a PC. We live way across town too.

I was thinking he could use Handbrake to compress the movie and send it to me via Dropbox.

Would that work? Basically, how should I explain to him the process of compressing it via Mac software so I can watch it on my PC?

naw, it's actually made by him. It's not a retail movie. I would rather burn anyway......but yeah. Thanks for the insight "add degrading remark here".
