Fun with merging Blu-ray languages

Hi Everyone,

Been looking around and trying to find a concise guide on how to do this, but to no avail....

So here's what I am trying to achieve, editing a Blu-ray movie so as to swap or add audio from a DVD. Easy enough when doing a movie-only type deal, but I want to be able to keep menus, special features, etc. And, I'd like the player's information popup thing to show the correct language code too, when switching using the remote's buttons.

Let's say for example that I have a region A Blu-ray movie that has only an English soundtrack and subtitles, and that I have the DVD version of the same movie, but with a language track that I want (let's say French, for example). Of course, the very first step is to make sure that both versions have the same running time!!!

This is what I have tried to do:

1) use TSMuxer to extract the language track AC3

2) Find the m2ts file of the movie on the BD rip folder, copy it to some other directory as a backup.

3) Open the movie m2ts with TSMuxer and remove some extra audio track I do not want (i.e. Spanish, or a commentary track)

4) Add the AC3 track, move it to the removed track's position in the stream list, and change the language description to the correct one

5) merge to an m2ts file in the ripped disc's BDMV (overwrite the original m2ts file)

6) Use BDedit to modify the playlist file(s) so that they have the correct language reference

7) Save, Burn, Enjoy

Well in theory anyway... I have tried this on two movies so far, on one of them it just freezes when trying to play the movie, on the other, the sound is about a second out of sync. I am currently re-doing this second movie but adding a delay for the audio track in TSMuxer)

So, does anyone have a better procedure, or advice?

LOL seems I did not look hard enough, looks like mutiAVCHD can now do exactly what I am looking for :S

Let me know if it works for you. There are not too many people to report the usage ot 're-author' mode in multiAVCHD.

Well, I just tried my first one... Smokin Aces 2, already shrunk to 25GB through BD-Rebuilder, but keeping the original languages.
Loaded it to MultiAVCHD, took some time to analyze, then found the playlist file which controls the main movie. Opened it up, removed Spanish, put in the ripped AC3 from the DVD, changed the language code, OK, then Start!

When all was done, though, I had an output of over 30GB. It turns out that for some reason there was one extra m2ts file added (original disc has 00001-00145, and this converted one had a 00146 file, same size as the main movie file). Thought it was just a glitch, so I deleted that extra file and burned it all to a rewritable disc..

Pop it in my Blu-ray player, menu loads fine, I click "play", and it goes straight to the "digital solutions" animation at the end of the movie... Going through the chapters options, same thing.

So now I just tried again, I did mess around and possibly click a few things I should not have, the first time around... And the same result, one extra m2ts file in the STREAM folder... any ideas?

I have a similar problem, and that's due to having various playlists that refer to the same m2ts files, then the re-author mode of MultiAVCHD generates a new m2ts for each playlist merging all the original m2ts files it refered to.

I think the solution would be the re-author mode needs to works with m2ts files instead with playlists, and after re-authoring the m2ts file modify all the playlist files refering to the modified m2ts (I sent some files to deank in order to tests these type of blurays but as he is really busy with menus for 730RC, so I just patientely wait he finds time to look for a solution for re-authoring multibranched movies).

right, right, that is consisten with this disc, it has the theatrical and unrated editions (each of them a separate m2ts file!!!), and for some reason there are 2 identical mpli files for each of them... I should have foind a better disc to experiment with!

I've explained everything there is to know about Blu-Ray discs re-author in those two guides. Branched blu-ray discs are not that easy to edit, but the one you have there is the easiest one that you'll encounter. I had recently a branched disc with the video split across over 34 m2ts files. 2 big mpls and over 34 small ones. And I edited it with the method presented in those 2 guides ( kept both theatrical and extended versions ).

I've done what you say in your guide:


ADDING SUBTITLE TO A SERIES BLU-RAY KEEPING THE ORIGINAL MENU WITH MULTIAVCHD

It is a matter of time until everything will be automated, but till then this is the method.

1. Do all the above operations for every playlist, except the one containing all episodes. Some discs have 2 playlists for every episode and a big one containing them all. In this cases edit only 1 playlist for each episode, not all 2 of them. NEVER EDIT BOTH OR THE ONE CONTAINING ALL EPISODES.

2. After multiAVCHD finishes we will copy in BDEdit the entry marks for chapters from the individual playlists to the big one. You open 2 instances of BDEdit. You will open your edited disc in both of them. In the first one you will choose the big mpls and you will see a list of chapters. In the second one you will open the individual ones and you will also see a list of chapters. You will modify the values from the big mpls with those from the individual ones. The same method applies for discs containing both Theatrical and Extended versions. The same steps, only that you'll repeat them for 20+ m2ts files.

But despite I only edit the playlists that refer to only one of the m2ts files that compose the movie (without touching the big playlist that refer to all the m2ts files of the movie), I'm still getting new duplicated files after re-authoring with MultiAVCHD.

So right now it seems that the only way to re-author branched blurays is manually editing every m2ts.

Because you don't have to edit the big mpls, you have to edit all the little ones. And those extra files are the remaining m2ts files that you need to delete manually. multiAVCHD does not delete the m2ts files.

I can delete thouse duped m2ts files without touching anything else? I'll do some tests this weekend :thanks:

You must delete their mpls + clpi files too. But only DUPE, not another m2ts file.
