I do not like the XP GUI nor the Aero GUI on 7. My favorite windows GUI is still the old Windows 2000 one: very slick and professional looking. Also, 7 windows explorer is missing some features that were available in previous versions, which were making want to go back to XP...

If you feel the same, here are the instructions on how to get almost the Windows 2000 GUI in XP and 7. I don't have Vista, so I cannot give instructions for that.

WinXP
Classic GUI:
-Righ-click on desktop, and select properties
-Display Properties->Appearance->Windows and buttons->Windows Classic style
-Display Properties->Appearance->Color scheme->Windows Classic
Classic Start Menu:
-Righ-click on Start button, and select properties
-Taskbar and Start Menu Properties->Start Menu->Classic Start menu

Win7
Classic GUI:
-Righ-click on desktop, and select personalize
-In Basic and High Contrast Themes select "Windows Classic"
Classic Start Menu and Windows Explorer:
-go here: http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/

Just complementing: the "accurate" name for the "XP GUI" is:

LUNA desktop theme

BTW, the "Classic" desktop "theme" actually was born with Windows 95. :p

The worst part is, several Linux "distro makers" think that Luna, Aqua, Aero, etc., are "very cool" things, worth the effort to emulate/copy. :(

very interesting, very cool.

i thank you so much yesgrey3!

err...doubts can be posted here?
(if yes, here are some: you know, Win2000(W2k) have one cool player in windows explorer and you can adjust the entire disks and folders showing(exibition) as 'List' without need to do boreds and separateds adjusts for each folder like in XP.
i never could get XP showing disks and folders exibition as 'List'.(this drive me crazy, i don't like mini's, big or short icons and/or details in w.explorer)
using XP with Classic GUI will let this player and others features working exactly like in W2k?)

cheers!

Thanks for the info.
By the way, you should correct your link, the right ")" was out of it, hence it's pointing to the wrong wiki page...

Sure. Maybe someone has the answers...

I did not exactly understand what you're referring to, but I think it might be this...
When I want all my folders view to look the same, without setting one-by-one, I do this:
(1) I open Windows Explorer, I select a folder and then I set it like I want all folders to look like.
(2) I go to Tools->Folder Options->View
(3) In the Advanced settings group, I check/uncheck all the options that I prefer
(4) After all set up I click the Apply Button.
(5) Finally, to get the same settings to all folders, I click the "Apply to folders" button and then confirm that I want to aply to all folders.

Another thing. There is a very annoying bug with Windows explorer in XP that always reset the window size and position not memorizing the last size/position we have defined.
To overcome this you should do this:
(1) Open Windows Explorer, and set the window size and position as you like.
(2) Navigate through a few folders
(3) Slightly change the width of the navigation pane.
(4) Navigate through a few folders again
(5) Exit Windows Explorer by using the Menu option "Close", not the top right "X"
(6) The next time you will open Windows Explorer, it should with the same size/position as when you closed it.

Sometimes, without we knowing why, the size/position is messed up again.
We have to repeat the process to make it stick again.

I did not exactly understand what you're referring to...
to be clever, i'm posting this screenshot from win2000 windows explorer showing the folders as 'list' and the player where i can play video and audio.
my folders have personalizeds icons to identify each type of archive....only looking the folder i know what have inside and in this case is audio file.
well, when i adjust 'my computer' in w.explorer to show as 'list' in w2k(2000), the entire folders and files from all hds appear as list, no need to adjust 'one by one' and this is what bore me with win7, vista and XP....

form from win2000 adjusted exibition as list in w.explorer...

if i install XP over w2k and follow yours hints i will stay with this and others features that w2k have but XP don't have(for unknow reasons)?
i will stay with the player running with XP after changes?!?

From the picture you have posted, it seems that portuguese is your native language. I'm portuguese, so I think it would be better for you to PM me with your questions in portuguese.
Sorry, but sometimes I cannot understand you english, so I don't know how to help you.
