Access non-contiguous m2ts file?

I have a video that was authored in the BR m2ts format. Being just over 7Gb and not prepared to author a full BR disk we placed it as data on a couple DVD's. Problem is...the first disk is now corrupt. The remaining disk has only the second portion of the m2ts file that was split (RARed). Is there a software that will allow me to access/edit this file such as can easily be done with VOB files? So far I've tried only Aseesoft M2TS Converter with no success. Since my searching this forum and elsewhere has not been fruitful any info offered would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

First of all, I think you're "up the creek" as far as recovering "Disc 2 of 2" without having "Disc 1 of 2".

Secondly, editing defective VOBs is not so easy as you may think, AFAIK there's no repair tool for VOBs, but you can use any HEX editor as the final hope...

Assuming these are your originals, try first to recover the physical archive from Disk 1of2 using isobuster/isopuzzle, unrar it (keep broken files, if needed) then reauthor the disk/s again.

So just copy your original video to a D/L disc. There's no need to split it...

Unfortunately this was authored some time ago and the raw file is no longer around. This is sadly the only remnant remaining. Still, It's interesting there isn't a process for "fixing" a fragmented file.

The RAR file was not PWP so 7-zip (or WinRAR) was able to extract just that portion.

Guess what I really meant when referencing VOB's was the ability to repair a corrupted portion of those and TS files using a stream fixing software (i.e. VideoRedo), not necessarily rebuild an index like (if I recall correctly) can be done with AVI's.

I did attempt to use ISOBuster but even it won't recognize the disk which is truly an anomaly. Really not sure what happened to that disk as I'm confident it was verified post-burn.

DVD-Rs go bad over time, it's just a fact of life. :cool: Never backup anything on recordable optical media if it's something you actually want to use a few years later. Some may work, some may not, it is not a reliable backup/storage medium...

If you could recover the second half, what would you do with it? Wouldn't you still need the first half?

Was this project made into real DVDs at one time? If you can get ahold of a copy of the final product (whatever it was), you should be able to recover all the video/audio from that... Just a thought.

It was a compilation of personal clips and not a movie so saving just the second portion would be a plus.

No, unfortunately it was never encoded to DVD format, just split and placed on 4.7's as data.

Maybe I'm wrong, but no tool I've checked in my career ever corrected the VOBs, I mean if one bit was wrong, the whole GOP was discarded. Maybe the FBI, CIA has something useful (for forensic tasks ;)) but I have no access to it ... Even AVIs are not easily repaired, although they can be better repaired than VOBs.
