What would be a good way for deinterlacing a 1080i MKV? Can it be deinterlaced on it's own or does it need to be converted to something else first? I've done some video editing/conversion on mac but I'm sure I'll have to do this on my Win7 partition.

thanks in advance.

After some all-evening-research I think I've figured out how to do what I need.My source video file is a PAL 25fps 1080i mkv. I need to get it to 24fps ntsc deinterlaced mkv. Here are my steps that I plan on doing:
(Anyone let me know what they think)

1. Demux using MKVEXtractGUI and MKVE Wizard

2. Use TSMuxer to change video framerate to 24fps

3. (Try) Clown-BD to convert DTS english track to to 640 kb/s AC3 track

4. Use eac3togui to convert pal timed audio to 24fps timed audio

5. remux to mkv using mkvtoolnix

6. use mkv2vob to: mkv>vob

7. use VirtualDub-MPEG2 w/smart deinterlace to: deinterlace the vob

8. Use RipBot264 to convert VOB to MKV

.......I hope that'll work I'm wanting to not degrade the video as much as possible to get it to 24fps deinterlaced mkv

Where did you get the MKV file?

I got it from from an HDTV broadcast.
I've been doing some more research and it appears that going the 'deinterlacer' route might not work best. I think I might need to Inverse Telecine. Sort of a "25fps 1080i mkv IVTC to 24fps 1080p or 720p mkv".
However I'm really a n00b when it comes to IVTC.

I'll check it out when I can get to it. I'll run it thru Mediainfo and see what it says. If it's just 25fps and not really interlaced then I can just go thru the process to change the framerate back to 24fps. But I got it as 1080i.....unless someone else labeled it wrong.......

I got it from from an HDTV broadcast. Did you make the MKV file yourself?

Negative, I got the MKV from an acquaintance.

Like Neuron2 said, simple deinterlacing should be what you need.

You can try Yadif, TDeint, etc. Plenty out there to go with.

Should I deinterlace first or slow down the the fps first?

Negative, I got the MKV from an acquaintance. You need to read and follow our forum rules, specifically rule 6. Thread closed.
