My son gave me the digital copy of a dvd. He has capibility to transfer and watch on his IPOD, so he did what he needed to do, but I haven't ventured there yet.
I did as instructed and inserted the digital copy into one of my HDD's, opened the dvd via "MY Computer" and entered the autorization code when prompted. After a few seconds it came back and said that I could now watch it on my computer. The only program that I could get to play it was WMP, evan tho it said that PowerDVD would play it also. Can only figure that I don't have a new enough version, v7.
From reading different search threads, :search:, it seems that I will never be able to play it on a stand alone DVD Player, but will be able to watch it on a TV if I insert a media device between, is that correct??
Of the 6 files that open, I guess that the wmv Disc 2 is for the WMP;
what is the DVDROM folder of 2.2GB for??
And then there is the special features execute file, I'm guessing for the bluray and transferring to the IPOD, is that a correct assumption??
Then there is the small config folder, that also has the play icon in it, and least we not forget the digital copy.dmg folder.

Was able to make an ISO. of these folders and mount it using virtual clone drive, but doesn't seem like I can do anything with it other than look at the various folders.

Am trying to learn more about this apparant copy protection scheme, don't have to have a copy but would like to play it on a stand alone. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I personally don't care about the Digital Copy as long as I can rip the original :p
However, from what I've read (and the info I found in the BD cases) you'll end with a WMV file that might be heavily DRMed (it doesn't need to be hard to break, just full of). Depending on the DRM system, you may burn a DVD-Video or not. It must however be playable at least on one platform...

I ended up watching it on my computer, little over two hours, but would like to find a way to watch it on the TV. Seagate has their media HD+ w/ wireless USB adapter on sale. Being I own nothing but alot of Seagate HDD's, including a couple of free agents, will buy it and try to figure a way to get the video from the WMP to the TV while playing back. Much easier would be some way to make it into an ISO or Video TS to send out via the network or onto a disc. Thought tells me to look at a converter program, such as anyvideo or perhaps AVS. Play time, I guess.

Neither AnyDVD Converter Pro or AVS Video Converter would open the WMV file on either the disc or the ISO file from the HDD. Was getting "file format error". And so the search goes on.

Tried a convertor called prism video converter, it like the rest was unsuccesful opening the file. Next, tried Ultra Video converter; it, according to itself, came the closest. Had it on the computer, so installed it, opened the wmv file from the disc, made appropriate output settings. It stated that being the free trial version that it would convert 50% as viewable. Hit convert; when it got to 50% it kept going; when it got to approx 72% it errored out and stopped the program. In checking the output folder there was nothing there. Uninstalled and checked for newer version, there was: downloaded and installed, once again ran the program; this time it errored out at 62%. Once again closed the program and in checking the output folder, once again there was nothing. While I am thinking that the conversion process is the way to go, not willing to pay for any program unless I'm sure that it will accomplish what I need it to do, mainly to make a copy that I can watch on a standalone.

Have also tried Blaze, Iskysoft, WinAVI and Smart DVD Creator; All these programs say that they can and will convert the wmv file to dvd or a multitude of other formats, they wont open the wmv file on the dvd in order to do the conversion. Smart DVD Creator after downloading and installing will only tell you then that it only does 70%, but no matter as it wouldn't add the file in the first place.
Will keep plugging along unless somebody knows of a program that will in fact convert the wmv from disc.

What it is, When you buy the blu-ray you get the digital copy with it. But you can only install that digital copy on one computer. Which he has the blu-ray and gave me the digital copy as he didn't/doesn't need it. One of the folders contains a wmv file for a PC in the US and another wmv file for a PC in, I believe, Canada.
After downloading/installing/trying 10 different converters; all of which said that they could/would convert wmv to another format, but for what ever reason none of them would work. A couple evan said that they would let you try it and do any where from 1 min to 3 mins and would go thru the process, but when you opened the folder there was noting there.
Last year I had gotten my son a program to do some audio conversions and it was still on my computer. When I opened it, it took me to their site and lo and behold they had all kinds of conversion programs and at different prices. I tried the single wmv to ?? conversion only program which let you try it for a minute, and you know what it worked. Converted from wmv to mpeg 2 and was able to play it back via VLC media player. Downloaded the full program to allow you to convert all kinds of formats to all other kinds of formats with a 1 minute trial, and it worked also.
To these other 10 programs, with all the promises and come ons who do think I am going to buy now. They of course evan give you free upgrades when you buy it.

Going to delete all these other from the computer. Took awhile but accomplised what I was attempting to do. :search:

Went thru all this just so I now know that I can and will be able to make a copy to play on my stand alone dvd player with the HD TV.
