I posted about this last week in another forum, but I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Someone suggested this:
"that has todo with your divx4 settings. on the bottom right hand corner it has a location for a divx.log file
if you dont have one, just make an empty notepad file and name it divx.log and point the divx4 settin to that file."
My only question was I couldn't find out where to specify the path to my divx.log file. If anyone knows, let me know. Thanks!

You should never create a divx.log file manually,
it must be made by the 'divx4.xx 2-pass, first pass' and are then used by the 'divx4.xx 2-pass, second pass', in flask u must do these one after the other manually.

Um... haha... I'm not sure I know what your talking about. I'm pretty new at this, so if you could explain how to do that, it would help. Thanks!

Ok sorry
I think you should go read some guides
http://www.doom9.org/divx-encoding.htm
Read a few and try the ones you like.

Yeah, read the Xmpeg guide.
basically here is how it works:
If you are using 2 pass encoding which you should, when you go to the avi output options, you set up your settings and provide a valid location and file name for a log file which the 1st pass encoding parameters will be set. Cause what happens in the first pass is the software scans the technical info of the movie (high points, low motion points, quantization stuff) then stores all of this in a log file which, when you get to the 2nd pass, it will adjust the codec accordingly with the details found in the log file.
got it?
hope that helps

OK... i read the xmpeg guide and it really helped me understand everything. But... i'm still getting this error:
"An error occured when trying to generate the file. Check that you're not using the output file or that the program is set up correctly."
So I dont know what I'm supposed to do with the log file thing. If you could help me out, I could sure use it. I really wanna learn, but so far I'm sucking at it bad :P
Thanks!

OK
did you consider this?
Where are you saying for the program to put the file? (c:\output file)
don't try to write over that file. Delete it and start again.
See if that helps out.
I know I had this problem, I'm just trying to figure out how I got rid of it. Also, if that doesn't work, do like I suggested and just completely uninstall xmpeg with all files left over, and install it again, from the ground up. If it STILL doesn't work, then you've got an OS problem, cause it should work fine.

I used to have the same problem. But only when I used the Radium codec for the audio. You can either encode with PCM audio or the LAME codec.

So you think its an audio problem?
Do you completely understand my problem?
So I should try the Lame Dll for MP3 sound?
Where do I put it so that the program will find it?
I can't use PCM, its WAY too big.
thanks,

Well I downloaded Lame.
How do I install it so that Xmpeg can read it?
I uninstalled my Radium codec, and when I go into the avi options, it still has MP3 sound in there.
