View Full Version : Would XviD 1.2.1 make full use of a quad-core CPU?

Currently using a Core2Duo E6600 2.4GHz x2, and it did speed up encoding time compared to say Xvid 1.1.3.

Thinking of upgrading to a Quad-core CPU and wondering if there will be any substantial decrease in decoding times?

TIA

It depends on the bitrate you use and the quality settings... yes, it helps. Doing a 480x360 800 kbps 2 pass, it keeps a Q6600 at around 70% on all cores. But I guess it also matters if you use avisynth and filters that limit the speed of input frames it receives.

You can max out your cores encoding several files at once (e.g. with MeGUI).
