View Full Version : Help for 3D movie and Adobe Premiere/Encore

Dear all
Sorry if I wrong forum section but I have not clue where to post my topic.
I'm here with a not common question.
Blue Ray supports 3D movie feature not only with anaglyph but with Shuttered devices.
I'm wondered if anybody can give an explanation about it. In few words: how to produce a shuttered 3D movie with Adobe Premiere please ( or encore if this is supported by Encore ) ? I mean a 3D movie destined to be watched with shuttered devices.
I'm asking this, because I think "something" has to tell to the external device that: this frame is for left eye, this frame is for right eye ... in interlaced as well as progressive way.
I'm wondered if you can help me and other people with it.

Not supported yet. The extensions to H.264 (MVC) are still being worked on. I think eventually we'll see this migrate down to prosumer level stuff like Premiere / Encore, but it will be awhile!

As I saw, there are already Blue Ray Discs recorded for shuttered systems ... and if I understood correctly Adobe Premiere is used in big production studios also ... perhaps do they use something else to give the 3D instructions to Blue Ray ? I mean in order to tell: this stream is for left eye and this for right eye ?
In this case: do you have any idea about what do they use please ?

Are there really shuttered BluRay discs and compliant players already in retail?? I know some stuff was demonstrated at CES, but AFAIK nothing is in retail.
Note, it's possible to encode a shuttered 3d stream using a regular encoder like x264. You simply stack the images vertically or horizontally, and stretch the results to fit a 1920x1080 frame. This is bad, and inefficient, but it's enough sometimes. I've done this for promo material, but I didn't think the spec was actually finalized.

~MiSfitIndeed it's not finalized ... because as I know, Panasonic has a 1920x1080p full for each eye .... sincerely talking, I have not clue if I encode "half-half" as you tell, the reader recognizes that t should be played as shuttered and/or compatible with normal playing ... I mean to who has not 3D ...
As far as I know with Anaglyphic method it's sufficient to split colors in R+0.5G for the left eye - Amber - and B+0.5G - blue - for the right and you have it easily done with normal system.
I know there is the most common: Magenta - R+B - and Cyan - G+B -... but on my understanding the Magenta doesn't bring "Green" information to the left eye ... intuitively I can have errors in 3D reconstruction, because part of the information is not brought to left eye: the green left-image
Shuttered are the best system for home purposes ( just because I not seen somebody introducing self-polarizing screens ) but what I see is that there is anything that tells to program, during enconding process: this stream is for left, this other stream is for right ... and it interlace them together ...

How does it works ? I means odd frames are for left eye ? Or for right eye ? ... it seems a secret :-/
How can decode something that is not yet encoded and/or standardized ? If there is not way to encode, there is not way to decode ... yet ... that's why my questions ...
About Blue Ray 3D itself. I'm not fully sure about but
being Blue Ray I suppose they support Shutter technology ... otherwise they can propose the same movie in a normal DVD ... that's what I'm thinking ... I say again: I'm not absolutely sure, it's a supposition.
