Strange A/V Sync Issue

I'm in the process of ripping my DVD collection. I am using AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter to rip the DVDs to a VOB file. I am NOT encoding them. The problem I'm running into is that during playback there will be a slight hiccup in the video and then the audio will be out of sync slightly. The points at which it happens are always the same, but differ from movie to movie and I haven't seen this happen on every one I rip, but I'm not sure. If I skip ahead by any amount the audio will be back in sync. And if I skip past the point when it will have the issue it never goes out of sync at all.

I'm using MPC-HC to playback the VOB files. All I've been able to think of is that it's a corrupt sector causing the issue, perhaps from copy protection. It does this both on my main system and my HTPC. Does anyone have any idea what this is and how can I fix it?

In DVDDecrypter, did you erroneously rip multiple angles? Maybe you used File mode instead of IFO mode?

Nope, I have only ever ripped the first angle, if it is even there. Also, I only rip using IFO mode.

Use DGSplit to cut the part of the VOB containing the problem. Upload it to mediafire.com and post the link here.

Alright, I've got one of the sections uploaded. While watching in MPC the sync offset stays at 0ms until the video hiccup. Also, sorry for the size. I had a little trouble getting the affected area in there.

Specifically, at what point in that sample does the video glitch occur for you?

Probably they are DVD-9 ;), which issue has been discussed here (layer break, "bad" mastering).

It happens right after the plane explodes and they stand up. If you look close when they're talking you hear what they are saying before their mouths move. Or is the file playing fin for you?

Or is the file playing fine for you? With MPC-HC 1.2.908.0 it hangs at that point. All my other players, incuding VLC 0.8.6c, play it fine.

LOL, go figure, a player issue. Looks like I'll be tossing MPC and getting VLC installed, today.

I don't think this has to do with the dual layer transition as it happens more than once in some of them. Unless you're talking about something else? I'll run a search about it.
According to your original post I assumed that it happened only one time, in fixed position, per movie.

There is however another issue you might consider in the future: the DVD-ROM drive, some of them yield corrupt data - check google (I think this issue is solved now, it was a problem some years ago).

Well, it's still sort of happening. It doesn't happen on my main system anymore, just on the HTPC. I'm using the same install of VLC on both. I even decided to do a clean install on the HTPC and it's still doing it. The audio and video stay in sync but there is still a hiccup and these same points.

As for the optical drive, it's a Plextor SATA drive. I bought it about two years ago.

OffTopic - the Plextors are now rebadged LGs (before they used Sanyo, the whole chassis or just the optical pickup, much better, eh, good old times).

I can't figure out what the cause is and I'm sick of dealing with it. I've decided to try encoding them using Handbrake. I think I can do it without loosing any quality.

Actually, they're Lite On now. Turns out, as I just replaced it, the old DVD burner was made back in 2005. I have two new Plextor BD drives and though they may be owned by Lite On they're both great drives. I'd be curious to see how much of them are Lite On parts. I would doubt that they are simply rebadged. Much like when Cisco bought Linksys. To my dismay they weren't simply rebadegd Cisco products.
