View Full Version : .TS and Hauppauge sound problem

Hi All,

I've had a number vid capture cards (like a ATI's AIW) and never had any real issues. However, I recently bought a standalone tuner; a Hauppauge 2250, software v7.0.27 (the latest I could find).

If I record short stuff -- roughly 2 hours or under -- everything is find and I can import the .TS file into my editor, TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3, and all is good.

However, if I record something longer, like 2.5 hours or more, then TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3 states that there is no audio present. I've tried building MPEGs anyway, and there is no sound in the resulting file.

The .TS files play fine in Hauppauge's viewer and VLC 0.8.4, but I want to edit the files...

Running XP Pro.

Any ideas on how to fix this??

TIA :)

Maybe there's a change in the audio (numebr of channels, format etc.) - which happens usually when the commercials kick in.

It's really time based for whatever reason. It's not quality settings (good, better, etc) as that makes no difference. The only thing that is different is the recording time. If I record for around 2 hours or less, things are fine. If I record for around 2 1/2 hours or more is the only time this happens...

Any ideas?? :(

I do not know why it does that, but common sense suggests to split the .TS in to two parts and edit :). Or you can recording the whole thing in two parts (<=2hr and >2hr).

Thanks for the reply, n0an. I can give it (splitting the recording time) a try.

Any idea on a free program to break down a .TS file into two parts?

TSSplitter does just the thing.

:( - TSSplitter works, in that it breaks up the file into smaller TS files, but sadly each part still has the same problem: No audio available when loaded into TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3 .

Maybe some utility to convert it to an MPEG?? ...or into audio / video parts??

Help!

What is your end purpose, and what do you mean by editing? Maybe we can find alternatives...

Two purposes: I record TV shows and I remove commercials to watch the shows "non-stop." The other main purpose in editing is converting home movies; I edit out the proverbial "foot shots" and the like. I don't have any problems with the home movies I capture (both VHS and digital 8 tapes). The only problem I have is TS files captured by the Hauppauge that are over approximately 2 1/2 hours long: no audio available.

I really like TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3 for this as it is extremely fast and accurate. I also have a couple versions of Roxio (latest Easy Creator 10) and it is painfully slow, and doesn't cut where I ask it to cut: it's always a few frames off so the end product always has annoying flashes at the start and end of where I cut out a scene.

still no joy :( -- contact TMPGEnc and they suggest to run the files thru SmartLabs tsMuxeR (found here: http://www.smlabs.net/tsmuxer_en.html) but it will not produce a file with audio, regard of which mux / demux option I use.

Help please....
