Hi again,

I have some 5.1 audio tracks and I want to author them as DVD-Video.

Since the video will be all black (I 'll just make a picture in ms paint with 720x576 dismensions, paint it black with the bucket tool, and then convert it to mpeg 2), it makes sense to use the lowest bitrate possible.

Which brings the question: Which is the minimum allowed bitrate for DVD-Video (overall and video)? Am I allowed to use bitrates as low as 1MBit or 600Kbit, or even lower? Or there is a minimum bitrate limit due to the specs/hardware limitations?

Thanks in advance,
kurkosdr.

Using DVDLabPro2 here, some of my black screens encoded as black video
(back then encoded with Mainconcept XS and 1.5.1)
have been 0.19Mbps..0.21 Mbps and were playable ok.

HC encoded some 0.2 Mbps from pure black, this also works well.

A VOB still is just one I-frame that is to be displayed as long as the cell shall play,
that's even less bits per playing time (audio sets the playing time here).

Available depending on your authoring software, DVDLabPro2 calls it AudioTitle.
