Hi All,
I have some AVI captures from very old Asus vid cards (V6800 and V8200) and nothing recognizes that format. I've searched the Web but haven't found a clue on how to convert them to MPEG...
Any ideas??
TIA :)

Drop one into MediaInfo's GUI and post the output of the "Text" view into a codebox (code tags available under "Go Advanced") in this thread. Once we know what's actually in them, decoding and frameserving should be easy.

@TwoRails
Hi!
1) Which ASUS software did you use when you originally captured these .AVIs?
2) What software player did you use to play them when you originally captured them?

Hi Insector.Gadget,
I can see how that's a handy utility! The output is below:
Hi setarip_old,
MediaInfo's output says it's Asus Live, which sounds right (it's been a long time). I've had a lot of vid cards and computer builds since then and the related software hasn't been installed since then. If I remember right, the files played with WMP of the time, and, naturally, Asus' viewer.

You need either:
The original Asus codec which you can find here:
http://www.afreecodec.com/download/video/afreeCodec_asusv2dec.zip
or here:
ftp://ftp.foracom.ru/drivers/video/NVIDIA/Asus/Utils/asv2dec.zip
Or ffdshow (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/) which is able to decode both ASV1 and ASV2.
Another alternative is to use one of the following tools which are all able to natively decode Asus Video and to encode to MPEG:
VLC, Mencoder, ffmpeg.

Sorry for taking so long in getting back... The codec trick worked, mostly. The files now play in WMP, but my editor (TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3) would still not recognize them. Easy work around, though, as TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator 2.5 read them so I was still able to convert them to MPEGs.
Thanks all!!! :)
